Destiny 2
What makes the game special? Destiny 2 comes from the former Halo developers Bungie. As with Halo, you will find epic science fiction stories and excellent gunplay here.
It also includes a generous amount of loot, RPG elements, and long-term content. In Destiny, all weapons feel just as weighty as they are powerful, making every new gun in your inventory a new audiovisual reward.
The base game with the first expansions is free, but you can only experience the newest classes, weapons, and content with the paid expansions and season passes. Nevertheless, Destiny 2 as a free-to-play title already offers many hours of fun.
What game modes are available? The focus of Destiny 2 is on PvE content. There are dungeons, countless missions, and long, challenging raids for 6 players. The PvE is otherwise designed for 3 players.
The PvP mode has high entry barriers but can also be a real enhancement for experienced players. Especially the Trials of Osiris is a highlight – here you need to obtain a certain number of consecutive wins to get special items.
Who should take a closer look at the game? Destiny 2 offers a vast amount of content for every player, whether solo or in a 6-person raid team. The combination of buttery-smooth gunplay and overpowered super abilities is entertaining in every configuration.
As long as you are not sensitive to sometimes very repetitive grinding, long-term fun should be guaranteed, especially thanks to the large annual expansions. The focus of new content is clearly on the PvE elements.
Escape from Tarkov
What makes the game special? Escape from Tarkov is a PvP shooter with PvE elements. Therefore, the common name for this game is also PvEvP (Player vs. Environment vs. Player) shooter. Thus, you are not only fighting against other players but also against computer-controlled enemies.
The game has built a solid player base and regularly goes viral, often gaining hype on the streaming platform Twitch. This is due to its relentless and realistic mechanics, combined with the innovative game mode – and a regular progress wipe that resets all players to the same level.
By now, “extraction shooters” are considered their own sub-genre of shooters, and Escape From Tarkov was essentially the founding father. The realism, attention to detail, and constant fear of losing your entire inventory make Escape from Tarkov (EFT) a unique shooting experience.
Especially weapon enthusiasts will love it here. Every single weapon is full of tiny details. It’s not just fun to watch the guns while shooting due to the detailed animations – realistic malfunctions can force you to improvise in the middle of combat.
What game modes are available? In EFT, there are two types of gameplay: You can play as a PMC or as a Scav. As a PMC, you must bring your own weapons, armor, and equipment into a so-called raid; as a Scav, you have random gear assigned.
To survive the raid and escape with the loot you’ve gathered, you must find an extraction zone and escape alive. Because if you die, you lose everything you had at that moment.
In Scav mode, you take on the role of one of the PvE enemies. You start in an ongoing raid and are randomly assigned usually poor gear. The gameplay as a Scav is significantly less cautious than as a PMC, as you can’t really lose anything – but you can ruin the opponents’ match and collect loot yourself.
Who should take a closer look at the game? If you enjoy the tension of a classic battle royale but want even more, EFT is perfect for you. Even players like Dr Disrespect are addicted thanks to this “gear fear” that leaves you constantly suspended between extreme emotions. Either you score some serious loot and survive – or you lose everything.
Additionally, a mission system provides motivation. Here you can complete tasks for specific traders, who then sell you better gear. You can also upgrade your hideout, so your PMC heals faster.
What could also be discouraging are the planned content wipes. Approximately every 6 months, the entire progress is reset. This ensures a fresh gameplay feeling, but it doesn’t sit well with everyone.
Fortnite
What makes the game special? Fortnite is one of the most popular games on the market, and not without reason. The battle royale game, which originally was a cooperative survival game, constantly reinvents itself, bringing in outrageous content, like a Kamehameha from Dragon Ball or a playable Thanos from the Marvel superhero universe.
For a long time, the unique covering mechanics were considered a hallmark. You can build your own cover anywhere and anytime; experienced players can erect entire fortresses in seconds. However, there is now also a “No Building” mode.
What game modes are available? Although Fortnite features the mentioned cooperative mode and a creative mode, the battle royale remains clearly the most important and popular game mode. With updates, there are always new maps, mechanics, and weapons, but the core of the BR experience remains largely the same: Save yourself from the storm, kill the opponents, and stay alive.

Who should take a closer look at the game? Anyone who has even a passing interest in BRs has likely tried Fortnite. But even players who do not fall into this category should give the game a chance.
The colorful graphic style has its own charm – especially since, thanks to the numerous crossovers, a winning team can consist of Spider-Man, Master Chief, Ariana Grande, and Naruto.
