In EA FC 24 you can vote for your Team Of The Year (TOTY). Among the candidates, there are also a few very experienced players. We take a look at the oldest possible TOTY for the year 2023.
Who determines the candidates? The nomination list was established by EA Sports. Not all players from Ultimate Team are eligible for the TOTY. The criteria for selecting the candidates are not precisely known. However, generally speaking, the best players of the year 2023 are eligible, as evidenced by the performance data of these players.
For each position, you can choose candidates who have been in the game for a long time and accordingly show a certain age. Here we present the eleven oldest players.
The starting eleven of the oldest candidates for the TOTY in EA FC 24
How did we set up? We follow EA Sports’ guidelines, which have arranged the TOTY voting in a 4-3-3 formation. We start with the goalkeeper and the defenders.
Our selection was based on a very simple rule. Only the oldest players among the nominees made it to our list.
Goalkeeper + Defense:
Wojciech Szczęsny (Juventus Turin) – 33 years: As a goalkeeper, the Pole is the oldest player eligible for selection, but overall he is among the youngest on our list. Especially in the goalkeeper position, we have seen even older keepers like Manuel Neuer or Gianluigi Buffon as candidates for the TOTY in recent years.
Dante (OGC Nice) – 40 years: From the youngest to the oldest on our list. The Brazilian good-naturedly probably never expected this. At 40 years old, the former Bundesliga star is nominated for the TOTY once again. Although a spot in the TOTY might be tight, Dante shows that age is just a number.
Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund) – 35 years: The 2014 World Champion recently celebrated his 35th birthday. Many critics had written off Hummels due to his speed deficiencies, but in 2023 he showed what is still possible with his wealth of experience and footballing class, even at an advanced footballer age.
Nicolás Otamendi (Benfica Lisbon) – 35 years: Another experienced player who can now also call himself a World Champion since 2022. Otamendi has always been seen as a real tough guy, and no player should enjoy playing against the Argentine defensive specialist. Even at this age, the defender doesn’t seem to want to become calmer, and certainly not worse.
Jesús Navas (Sevilla FC) – 38 years: The 3 previous defenders can afford to compensate for their loss of speed with good positioning. Jesús Navas cannot afford that as a right-back and rushes up and down the line today just like he did 20 years ago. Even though he may not reach the speed of his best years, the Spaniard still dazzles with good dribbling and strong crosses.
Midfield:
Luka Modrić (Real Madrid) – 38 years: What all of those on this list have in common is that age seems not to matter to them. However, considering the mileage of the Croatian after each game, we have to highlight him especially. Modrić covers an incredible amount of distance in every game and is found everywhere on the pitch. His unique passing precision does not diminish with continued playtime nor with advancing footballer age.
Toni Kroos (Real Madrid) – 34 years: Just in early January, the most successful German footballer of all time celebrated his 34th birthday. EA Sports rewards him with a nomination for the TOTY. He would have earned this nomination even without EA’s generosity. In a star-studded team of the Royal Club, Kroos is still the most important playmaker in midfield. Perhaps we will soon see the World Champion back in the national team.
İlkay Gündoğan (FC Barcelona) – 33 years: The chances for a TOTY nomination have perhaps never been better for the captain of the German national team. For this, Gündoğan had to turn 33 years old first. In his last season for Manchester City, he led his team as captain to the championship and even to the first Champions League success in the club’s history.
Attack:
Cristiano Ronaldo (Al-Nassr) – 38 years: Who can claim at 38 years old to be the leading scorer in 2023? That’s right, Cristiano Ronaldo. While the Portuguese is no longer seen on the grand stage of club football since his transfer to Saudi Arabia, he knows how to shine with goals in his new footballing home.
Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) – 36 years: His eternal rival Lionel Messi has also withdrawn from European top football and is closing his career in the American MLS. If one can even call it that, as Messi, even at 36 years old, still has a great passion for football and immediately impressed in his first matches with goals and assists.
Karim Benzema (Al-Ittihad) – 36 years: Benzema played a significant role for Real Madrid until last season and was the ultimate scorer for the Royals. Now, Benzema takes it a bit easier in the Saudi Pro League like Ronaldo. However, the Frenchman still knows how to score goals.
This is the oldest TOTY in EA FC 24:
The total age of all players adds up to 397 years. The TOTY with the oldest stars in EA FC 24 has an average age of around 36 years. These players are simply like fine wine.
At the end of our list, we ask you: Would you choose one of our oldie candidates for your TOTY? Feel free to let us know in the comments. A FIFA expert recently also voted for his personal TOTY. Let’s just say he relied more on younger players. But feel free to check it out for yourself: German FIFA expert builds his TOTY, but 2 of the biggest stars are not included
