5. Mechagodzilla
- First appeared in the film Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974)
Mechagodzilla is a popular opponent of Godzilla who has received various backstories over time. In his first appearance, he was constructed by the aliens of Black Hole Planet 3 to take over the Earth. In later films like Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla from 2002, the government built Mechagodzilla named Kiryu, which was created based on the old bones of the first Godzilla.
The danger of the many Mechagodzilla versions is that they are based on Godzilla and additionally equipped with cutting-edge technology. Depending on the variant, Mechagodzilla possesses its own laser, missiles, and the ability to fly.
Mechagodzilla usually also uses a form of AI, which means it does not need to be directly controlled but can make its own decisions. As is often the case in such films, this does not always lead to positive outcomes. In its last film appearance (Godzilla vs. Kong), it killed its creator and rampaged through the city after the AI was manipulated by its origin, the Ghidorah bones.
