Rank 7: Theon Stark, the Hungry Wolf
Theon is the textbook example of a tough northerner. And I definitely do not mean the Theon from the series. The legendary Theon Stark lived thousands of years earlier, when the Andals invaded Westeros. Gradually they conquered the continent and brought with their culture things like knighthood or the faith in the Seven.
However, one region could never be conquered by the Andals: the North. This was mainly due to Theon Stark, who fiercely resisted the invaders. In one battle, he killed Argos Sevenstars, an important warlord of the Andals. He then crossed the strait to take bloody revenge. He decorated his ship with Argos’ corpse, which he had bound to the bow as a figurehead. After he had destroyed dozens of villages, he returned to Westeros. To deter future conquerors, he took the heads of his slain enemies with him and had them displayed on spikes along the coast.
He dealt similarly with anyone foolish enough to intrude into the North. He also waged war against the Iron Men and the Wildlings. His methods were always harsh and lacking in diplomacy. Yet they ensured that the North remained independent. As he was mired in battles throughout his entire reign, he eventually earned the nickname “Hungry Wolf”.
