In Destiny 2, the revised Trials of Osiris will begin on September 10. The elite PvP mode is now intended to be more accessible to everyone, throwing around guaranteed loot and no longer punishing defeats. MeinMMO summarizes everything you need to know whether it’s worth it for you in Season 15.
What’s new now: This evening, on September 10, 2021, the Trials of Osiris in the new Season 15 will start for the first time. The wait has been worth it, as Bungie is giving the mode a complete rework – which was much needed.
This way, guardians who are not PvP gods can finally have fun, and even PvE players should receive rewards for participating in the more accessible mode thanks to new rules and mechanics.
Whoever wins 5 rounds first wins the match. It’s important that having a high power level gives you advantages – like in the Iron Banner. Your contact for the mode is Saint-14 in the Tower Hangar. The Trials have exclusive weapons and armor that can only be obtained there and are among the best in the game. The mode is now being revised in Season 15, as it was previously too elitist and is now meant to appeal to all guardians.
How the Trials of Osiris are being revised in Season 15
MeinMMO briefly summarizes the most important changes to the endgame PvP mode here. We also show you where to get detailed information and take a look at the brand new Trials weapon.
- You don’t need a full 3-player team: Solos or duos can rejoice, as Trials now has automatic matchmaking. However, you can theoretically be matched against a full 3-player team as a solo player. Later, a complete freelance list will be added.
- Trials is no longer Free2Play: To participate in the Trials of Osiris, you now have to purchase the current year’s expansion. Currently, that is “Beyond Light” – from February 22, 2022, you’ll need “Witch Queen.” This is intended to bring under control the so-called throwaway accounts that often cheated.
- Saint-14 is being revised: The Trials NPC Saint-14 now functions like other vendors (Shaxx or Zavala). You rank up only by participating in the mode and unlocking guaranteed Trials rewards. Additionally, there are 2 challenges with top loot each week.
- In the Trials, it’s no longer just about victories: Even if you lose a match, you’ll still receive reputation. Individual round wins give reputation bonuses (whoever wins 5 rounds first wins the match). Your ticket no longer expires after 3 losses and rewards should also be obtainable in case of defeats.
- New matchmaking: The new player search aims to find opponents with similar skill and the same number of wins on the ticket. Remember, tickets now last much longer and are reset less often.
- Automatic anti-cheat starts today: The program BattlEye aims to automatically detect and punish cheaters from today onwards.
- Crossplay must be enabled for the Trials: However, it seems that the separation between PC and console still takes place as in normal crossplay PvP: Here more about the new crossplay feature on MeinMMO.
- New round rules: A round now lasts 90 seconds (previously 120) and you cannot carry ammunition into the next round. You will receive some special ammunition at the start of each round. This is intended to make matches faster and reduce camping (on super).
- You remain in first-person view: You can no longer just switch to third-person view to gain an overview advantage (Three-Peeking). Both swords without ammunition and emotes are used in Trials in first-person view.

The Trials should finally be worthwhile for all guardians
You can still go Flawless in the new Trials of Osiris, meaning achieving 7 wins without a defeat. This way, you get the master version of weapons. The additional new loot system is, however, much more accessible.
Here’s how to get targeted loot: In addition to your wins, you now receive the cool Trials rewards in 2 ways: Upon ranking up, you get Trials Engrams that you can focus with Saint-14, thus having an influence on the contents. You do not need to unlock the individual armor and weapons first for them to be included in the loot pool.
If you reach certain ranks through reputation gain (just for participating in the Trials), you will automatically receive rewards. These are upgrade materials like Ascendant Shards, but also weapons. The known (and hated) tokens are to be completely removed.
This weapon is new in Season 15: Reed’s Regret is a linear fusion rifle for the power slot and deals Stasis damage.
The weapon fits perfectly into the current sandbox, even in PvE. Because of the seasonal mod Particle Deconstruction, fusion rifles are currently the best weapons in the endgame. Reed’s Regret brings some strong options for PvE: Line in the Sand, Vorpal Weapon, Clown Cartridge, and Triple Tap are ideal against bosses.
But in PvP, the weapon also sounds really strong: Fixer Grip, Gravestone, and Deadly Wind make other guardians tremble. Only those who achieve Flawless in the Trials will receive the better master version of Reed’s Regret.
