The PlayStation 4 is still a powerful console in 2023, and even the release of the PS5 can’t change that. MyMMO editor Maik Schneider lists 10 graphic masterpieces on the PS4 that are worth a look.
How was this list compiled? The PS4 generation was my peak on the Sony console. I had enough time and money for games, no PC, and many active players.
The PS4 was my console.
That’s why I consider myself competent enough to present you a list of the most beautiful games on the PS4 – preferably with the PS4 Pro. I’m not only focused on the technology, but also on the fantastic scenes and experiences that the games offer you.
Be ready to push your PS4 jet to the limits. For each game, you’ll find a trailer and a short description here. The order is not a ranking.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Uncharted 4 gets a brutal 93 points on Metacritic and is considered one of the best conclusions of a video game series (via metacritic.com). You will experience an exciting adventure in third-person with shooter elements revolving around the thief Nathan Drake, which captivates you for hours and offers great views.
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Whether Zero Dawn or Forbidden West: The Horizon series offers beautiful graphics. In combination with the crazy and fresh setting in various biomes, regular awe is guaranteed.
Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima takes you to feudal Japan, year 1274. The Mongols are conquering your homeland, and you are called as one of the last Samurai to restore peace. Expect extremely challenging sword fights that deliver a relay with outstanding animations.
The Witcher: Wild Hunt
The Witcher is huge, looks fantastic, and constantly surprises with what it visually offers. Endless details, diverse shapes, and varied landscapes – an adventure that I can recommend to every gamer.
Red Dead Redemption 2
A playable western focused on realism. The open world offers plenty to discover, and many stories of the people of this time provoke thought, while in terms of detail richness, it can boast the label “Horse Testicles”.
Last of Us Part II
In The Last of Us: Part 2, you visit a desolate world that has perished years ago. A disease has created zombie-like beings, and the remnants of humanity fight for survival. Nature has reclaimed many parts of the earth, which repeatedly provides visually striking scenes.
God of War
As with Horizon, the two “God of War” titles after the transition to a more RPG-like gameplay look fantastic. Breathtaking visuals in a mythological setting and constant action make God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök intense experiences.
Elden Ring
The so-called “Soulslike” games are absurdly difficult action RPGs with a dark setting. Elden Ring dares for the first time to venture into an open world and was a huge hit in 2022. It is full of details and leaves storytelling largely to the environment, giving the visuals a very special touch.
Final Fantasy VII: Remake
Final Fantasy VII was a milestone in role-playing history and dazzled in the 90s with its technical innovations. The first part of the remake can hold its own and is oriented towards the fabulous visuals that amazed back then.
Death Stranding
The title is considered a “walking simulator” and rightly so. But the story has a fascinating allure, the characters draw you in, and the cutscenes are insane. Colleague Marie Friske even wrote her master’s thesis about it. A glimpse into the destroyed world can be worthwhile.
These were my biggest graphic highlights on the PS4. I would love to create another category for “Honorable Mentions” – write in the comments which games you would like to see there.
