Tire Tracks in the Shire
Isildur doesn’t seem to be the only time traveler in Middle-earth. There are also clear signs in the Shire that modern technology was used.
Right at the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf arrives in the Shire, and the camera follows him on his way to Bilbo’s cave. You can see some children running after the cart. The cart drawn by horses, mind you.
However, the tracks that the children pass over suspiciously resemble those left by a car. They are undoubtedly tire tracks from the film crew, which were not adequately covered up.
Speaking of cars: In the original cinematic version as well as in the later DVD version of the film, you can see a car in the background as Frodo sets off from the Shire. This mistake was digitally corrected in later versions. For immersion, this is better, but it’s just a pity that such a great film mistake has been lost.
