With his adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Peter Jackson made film history. The three adaptations are still very popular and belong to the best fantasy films ever.
However, they are not free from mistakes. A keen observer will discover one or another slip. Considering the enormous running time of about 12 hours in the extended cut, it’s forgivable that Jackson and his team made a few errors. Nevertheless, they are funny or curious – here are 10 that we like the most.
Aragorn’s Two Swords
Aragorn is one of the best warriors in The Lord of the Rings – and one of the strongest members of the Fellowship. During his duel against the Uruk-hai Lurtz at the end of part 1, things get heated for a moment. First, Lurtz kills Boromir with several arrows, then he turns to Aragorn. The Uruk-hai pushes him against a tree and hastily throws his shield after him. This drives Aragorn literally into the wood.
If you look closely, you can see that the impact against the tree knocks Aragorn’s sword from his hand. Of course, the force with which Lurtz knocked the heir of Gondor was enormous. It’s not surprising that Aragorn lost his weapon during this.
However, it seems strange that he is holding the sword in his hand after the next cut – even though it was clearly visible just moments earlier that the weapon fell to the ground. After another cut, Lurtz approaches Aragorn, and suddenly the sword is back in his hand. You can watch the scene on YouTube.
This is a classic continuity error. It is based on the fact that the scene was shot on set in different ways. Viggo Mortensen, who played Aragorn, did not always release the sword at the same moment in different takes. In editing, various attempts were mixed together, and the error occurred.
