PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
In March 2017, the early access of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds started following several beta tests – in December 2017, the release followed. PUBG is regarded as one of the most successful current games in 2018, with several million players. In this action survival game, the goal is to be the last survivor in huge deathmatches. Depending on the game type, you can also play in teams – the team that is left wins.
A round in Battle Royale starts with about 100 players in a plane flying over one of two large islands (about 8 x 8 kilometers). You can choose at which spot on the island you want to start your adventure, and you should time your jump from the plane accordingly.
With a parachute, you glide down towards your target point on the ground without any items on your body. Once you arrive there, you search buildings and the surroundings for weapons, equipment such as helmets, vehicles, and other useful items like food that can help you in your survival fight.
Now, decide depending on your playstyle and mood whether you want to barricade yourself and hide from other players or hunt and take them down. To be the last survivor, you either wait for the competition to eliminate themselves or actively participate in the elimination. To make the hunt even more worthwhile, you can loot killed opponents.
Can you camp the whole game in one spot? To prevent camping from being exploited, the map will shrink at regular intervals starting from the fifth minute through a gas cloud. The map shrinks piece by piece to a randomly selected point. Players who remain outside this safe zone and thus within the mist will take damage over time and can die.
This way, players automatically get closer to each other to avoid the damage from the cloud. This automatically creates tension in the game, and campers cannot unnecessarily prolong the match.
To make the game even more exciting, planes drop bombs on certain map sections during the match. Players within those sections are warned minutes before in the game and have the chance to look for a safer place. A round lasts about 30 minutes on average.
