Rank 3: The Winds of Winter
- Season: 6
- Episode: 10
- Rating: 9.9/10
In the finale of the sixth season, there are several truly great and important moments. It’s no wonder that “The Winds of Winter” ranks 3rd among the most popular episodes of Game of Thrones.
The episode begins right with what is probably the mightiest scene, Cersei’s masterstroke. She is meant to receive her sentence in the Great Sept of Baelor. There, the High Sparrow and the Tyrells are already waiting for her. But instead of allowing herself to be convicted, Cersei blows the Sept and her opponents into the air. However, her triumph is bittersweet. Stricken by Margaery’s death, Tommen throws himself out of the window.
Arya also gets her sweet revenge in this episode. Disguised with an inconspicuous face, she sneaks into a feast held by Walder Frey, who once slaughtered her family. First, she serves him pie made from his own sons. Then Arya unrecognizes herself and cuts his throat.
In the north, Bran finally discovers Jon Snow’s true parentage. He is then declared the new King in the North.
Fun Fact: In the first scene, we hear a piano in the background for the first time in the series. Composer Ramin Djawadi explained that he wanted to make it clear to the viewers that something was not quite right.
