Rank 8: The Children
- Season: 4
- Episode: 10
- Rating: 9.7/10
In the finale of Season 4, many different storylines come to a head. This works especially well because the entire season was already extremely good and set up events fittingly.
In the north, Jon meets Mance Rayder and negotiates a truce. Shortly after, the wildling camp is attacked by Stannis’s army, and the “King-Beyond-the-Wall” is captured. Also in the far north, Bran finally meets the “Three-Eyed Raven” after his long journey. He learns that while he will never walk again, he will fly.
Meanwhile, Daenerys continues to face problems with her dragons. A heartbreaking scene unfolds where the “Mother of Dragons” must chain and lock away her children.
The episode reaches its tragic climax when Tyrion, fleeing, enters his father’s quarters. There he finds his former lover Shae. Broken by betrayal and in tears, he ultimately chokes her. He then grabs a crossbow and delivers his father the most undignified death in the entire series – he shoots him on the toilet.
The episode closes perfectly with Arya, who departs for Braavos with the famous words “Valar Morghulis.”
Fun Fact: Season 4 Episode 10 is already the third season finale where Arya’s last words are “Valar Morghulis.”
