Rank 9: The Laws of Gods and Men
- Season: 4
- Episode: 6
- Rating: 9.7/10
Season 4 Episode 6 is particularly a highlight when it comes to political intrigue in Game of Thrones. In the trial, Tyrion must face the accusation of murdering King Joffrey. Many witnesses are called to testify against him, supposedly proving Tyrion’s guilt. The climax of the trial comes when Tyrion’s lover Shae appears as a witness and testifies against him. Struck by betrayal, Tyrion gives a legendary speech in which he “confesses his sins” and ultimately demands a trial by combat.
But other scenes in the episode were also significant. Asha breaks into the dungeon to rescue her brother Theon. However, he has been completely broken by Ramsay’s torture and refuses to flee. In resignation, she realizes that her brother is “dead.”
In Meereen, Daenerys comes to realize that governing a city isn’t as easy as it seems. Numerous pleas demand difficult decisions from her. For example, a goat herder complains because a dragon has killed his herd.
Fun Fact: This is the first episode in which no member of House Stark is seen.
