On January 1, 2024, Adam Driver spoke in the SmartLess podcast about his significant role as the “Star Wars” antagonist in the latest film trilogy of the famous sci-fi universe.
In doing so, he dispelled all rumors regarding a possible return of the character and shared how he felt during the shooting back then.
Here you see a trailer for Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker, the last film in which Adam Driver is seen as Kylo Ren:
“I made it harder than it had to be”
Adam Driver stated outright that he would not be seen in another Star Wars film. Sean Haynes, one of the hosts of the podcast, then asked the actor, “You’re done [with the role] because the character is done?”
To which Adam Driver affirmed. He added that filming the trilogy had been very exhausting for him and that he had struggled with the director’s pace, but also had stood in his own way.
Star Wars was much more exhausting for me… I made it harder than it had to be. I hadn’t quite understood the dynamics of such a large set. Everything I had worked on was quite small and moved quite quickly.
Driver explained
He further explained: “The director sets the pace on set. I don’t like to control that. I have to adapt. Spike Lee and [Steven] Soderbergh shoot very quickly. For me, that’s uncomfortable, but it’s their film, so I adapt.”
