Destiny 2 offers not much new at first glance for the Dawn event 2021. However, the old weapons have become stronger due to the addition of popular perks. We take a look at them and reveal which strong perk combinations work particularly well in 2021.
The Tower is also festively decorated for Dawn in 2021. Eva has her oven with her again, which means you can bake cookies. In return, there are mostly known rewards and some Glimmer. This initially did not entice some Guardians to participate in the event.
Compared to the Halloween event with headless knights and a lore book, the Dawn event seems to offer little new at first glance. But this year, it is the old weapons that Guardians want to earn until January 4, 2022, and for good reason.
- There is the first Stasis sword with the new perk “Cold Steel”.
- The old weapons have been expanded with popular perk combinations.
- The Dawn fusion rifle can now drop with a really strong perk combination.
Glacioclasmus – Void Fusion Rifle
Players already know the Void fusion rifle from the Dawn 2020. However, it was not very popular among Guardians back then. Although the weapon strongly resembles the notorious Erentil, its perk pool did not convince players in 2020.
Bungie has therefore spiced up the perk pool of the fusion rifle this year and expanded it with popular perks like “Sustenance” and “Storage Salvo”. Destiny 2 content creators, like KackisHD, referred to it before the event as “a unique PvE Godroll” for Glacioclasmus.
[…] a crazy, unique PvE Godroll for the Glacioclasmus fusion rifle. I guess fusion rifles are now rocket launchers.

What’s interesting is: Glacioclasmus is the only fusion rifle that can drop in Destiny 2 with this special perk combination of “Sustenance” and “Storage Salvo”.
This plays well in PvE:
- “Improved Battery” for a larger magazine or “Liquid Coils” for more “Storage Salvos”.
- “Sustenance” reloads the magazine from reserves after a kill.
- “Storage Salvo” is comparable to “Dragonfly”. When the battery is full, your next salvo deals additional damage and enemies explode upon death.
- In Season 15, you can further increase your damage in PvE with the seasonal mod “Particle Deconstruction”.
- Masterwork: Range
The Void fusion rifle is competitive in PvP as well:
- “Hammer-forged Rifling” – you get a solid long-range barrel for increased range.
- “Projection Fuse” grants you additional range. This allows you to fire the weapon from a distance for even more effective damage.
- “Sustenance” reloads the magazine from reserves after a kill.
- “Overloaded Rounds” because in PvP, there is often little special ammo available. Your last rounds in the magazine deal more damage.
Zephyr – Stasis Sword
The reimagining of the classic “Zephyr” is the first Stasis sword in Destiny 2 and should, alongside a Void, Arc, and Solar sword, get a fixed place in the vault. It grants you the new perk “Cold Steel” to slow down hit enemies and enhance your Stasis builds.
Slow effects can stack: Especially the fact that a power weapon now has slow effects could become quite practical. They can stack until enemies are completely frozen. Thus, the new sword fits perfectly with Stasis builds of all three classes.
This plays well in PvE: A combination of the known sword Godroll, where the perks can be switched, is practical. This allows switching between “Whirlwind Blade” and “Cold Steel”.
- “Balanced Sword Frame” provides balanced defense.
- “Jagged Edge” increases damage at the cost of sword ammo.
- “Relentless Strikes” grants sword ammo upon landing three light hits in quick succession. (light attack)
- “Whirlwind Blade” increases sword damage for a short time with quick sword strikes.
- “Cold Steel” charged hits with the sword slow targets.
- Masterwork: Impact
During the Dawn event, you can also earn the new “Dendrite Glimmer” armor:
Avalanche – Solar Machine Gun
The Solar machine gun “Avalanche” visually resembles the former Gambit mowing machine “21% Delirium”. However, it has a much lower fire rate and lacks the once-powerful perk “Kill Tracker”. Nevertheless, the machine gun still offers practical advantages today and is robust and reliable, thanks to its adaptive chassis.
For Dawn 2021, the weapon also received “Sustenance” as an option. In PvE, it is a solid option to sweep smaller enemy groups off the map, even at higher difficulty levels.
In PvE, you should rely on these perks:
- “SPO-26 Front” is a special SUROS lightweight red dot sight that allows for a short zoom and increases handling speed and range.
- “Extended Magazine” gives the weapon a bit more ammo reserves at the cost of reload speed, improving the low standard ammo reserves somewhat.
- “Sustenance” complements last year’s Godroll perk “Self-Loading Holder” for 2021. The magazine reloads directly after a kill from reserves, so the weapon doesn’t have to be stowed first.
- “Dragonfly” creates an elemental damage explosion.
- Combine with the weapon mod “Dragonfly Spec”, which increases the effect and damage of Dragonfly.
- Masterwork: Range
Frostfront – Kinetic Submachine Gun
The kinetic submachine gun is the least noticeable of all Dawn weapons with an “Aggressive Frame”. Although it deals a fair amount of damage for a submachine gun, it has very low stability. In the Crucible, the weapon did not convince most players.
Even in PvE activities, it is rarely seen, as there are significantly better options. However, if you have taken a liking to it, these perk combos are recommended:
In PvE, focus on this roll:
- “Smallbore,” which provides more stability
- “Enhanced Rounds” gives the weapon more range.
- “Feeding Frenzy” grants you a continuous improvement on reload speed for a short time after each kill.
- “Kill Clip” gives the weapon more damage when you reload after a kill. Ideal for this submachine gun with a low magazine size.
- Masterwork: Stability or Range
For PvP, stability improvements are recommended:
- “Smallbore” increases stability
- “Tactical Mag” provides a slight improvement in stability, magazine size, and reload speed.
- Also, “Zen Moment” helps you stay on target and supports stability
- Try “Targeting Adjuster,” “Dynamic Sway Reduction,” or “Harmony” for extra benefits
- Masterwork: Stability or Range
How to earn the Dawn weapons 2021
The weapons can only be earned during the Dawn event. The Christmas event has been running in Destiny 2 since December 14, 2021, and ends on January 4, 2022.
- To get the weapons, you need to bake cookies diligently. In return, you will receive Dawn gift packages from the friendly NPCs, among other rewards.
- With each delivered treat, you have a chance at one of the Dawn weapons with random rolls.
- You can also buy the packages “Uniform Exchange” and “Sharp Exchange” directly from Eva. For that, you need 5 Dawn Mood and 1 delivery package.
So everyone should have a good chance at the weapons, because getting event weapons later is difficult.
This increases the chance for good rolls: To have a higher chance for good perk combos, you should quickly unlock all Dawn perks for weapons at Eva, such as “Extra Nice Gifts” and “Even Extra Nicer Gifts”. They cost 40 Dawn Mood and ensure that all Dawn weapons can drop with additional perks to choose from in the left and right slot.
Ffor those who still need Dawn Mood: The exotic ship “Stellar Traveler 7M” grants a chance to receive Dawn Mood when you find Dawn ingredients. Players could earn it last year during the Dawn event. Equip it and check EVA Levante for the ship package on page 2. She will gift you all the drive and teleportation effects for 2021, which you could earn in 2020.
The new shimmering Dawn armors, however, are only available from Tess in Eververse:
For those who did not get the chance to earn the ship last year, it can be purchased from Eva for the fair price of 5,000 Glimmer and 100 Legendary Shards.
Are you diligently baking cookies for the Godrolls of the icy weapons or have you already received them from one of the NPCs? What weapons would you like to see Bungie introduce at the next Dawn event?
