Players discover a plush toy in Apex Legends. A developer explains why this animal has a special place in the game.
This is what happened: Since the release of Apex Legends, players have been finding Easter eggs and other unusual things on the map of the battle royale shooter. Now, they stumbled upon a plush dog that has a special spot on the map.
The plush dog is standing on a pillow. In the immediate vicinity, there are also two photos. One shows a dog, and the other two people.
On Twitter, lead level designer Jason McCord confirms that this is not just a meaningless Easter egg. It’s a touching tribute to a good friend he lost during the development of Apex Legends.
The dog belonged to the developer: The website Kotaku reported on the dog in Apex Legends when it was still unclear who it belonged to. McCord then shared the story behind it on Twitter.
While McCord was working on the King’s Canyon map of Apex Legends, the family dog, Shadie, suddenly became very ill and passed away. She was 10 years old.
“As any pet owner knows, it was a hard blow to my morale and made it difficult for me to go to work for many days,” McCord writes on Twitter. “Shadie was our best friend, and I wanted her to live on at that spot on the map.”

This way, McCord can see his friend every time he plays a round and has created a great memory of the loyal companion. He says he often feels better after visiting the spot in the game.
