During the holidays, there is a major criticism in World of Warcraft Classic: The call for a ban wave in Azeroth is getting louder.
In the last few months, a lot has happened in World of Warcraft Classic, and for several weeks, players have been working on their PvP ranks. However, while grinding for honor in Alterac Valley and chasing tier sets in raids, there is an increasingly growing problem: Bots are taking over many WoW Classic servers, plunging more and more aspects of the game into chaos. Players are now demanding a ban wave from Blizzard.
What is the problem? Bots on WoW Classic realms have a significant impact on many game systems:
- Farm bots kill specific mobs 24/7, earning their gold
- PvP bots “leech honor” so the owner can achieve a high PvP rank.
- Other bots automatically scan the auction house and buy items just a fraction of a second after they are listed.
They all disrupt the gameplay of honest players and can even be the decisive disadvantage in PvP, causing one side to lose the battle.
But at least you can still simply throw dwarves at the enemies…
That is the players’ demand: After a corresponding post was opened in the WoW Classic subreddit, there was a flood of agreement and upvotes. The post received over 9000 upvotes and more than 93% approval (as of: 28.12.2019, 12:00 Uhr).
A small excerpt from the post says (translated):
“I think that bots are ruining the game. Honor bots push people with jobs and lives further down in their ratings. AH bots specifically buy and immediately resell the items at a higher price. Bots in the open world farm XP and materials. Sure, players will also do these things without bots, but at least THEY did it (and created interaction with other people).
Bots diminish the achievements made by real people who play the game. The community is what makes Azeroth so great, and every time you destroy a part of the community, Classic dies a little more.”
Does Blizzard not ban? Much discussion is taking place on Reddit regarding this issue. Many players report bots they have been observing for weeks, and despite numerous reports, nothing happens. Even “after weeks and hundreds of reports,” these bots are still roaming and continuing their work. This leads to a sense of powerlessness among players, as neither reporting seems to help nor does Blizzard seem to really want to tackle the problem.
Sometimes Blizzard even secretly changes small things in WoW Classic.
Whether this sense of powerlessness reflects the truth will probably become clear in a few weeks. After all, Blizzard is known for banning bots in large waves to make it more difficult for bot creators to figure out how they got caught.
Moreover, it is currently the holiday season, so the number of employees handling bots is likely to be reduced as well.
Are you also suffering from the bot problem? Or have you not noticed this in Classic at all?
