The new snow map for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is called Vikendi and is already being actively tested. For players, a tactical aspect comes into play that has not existed in PUBG before.
Players waited a long time for the snow map for PUBG. Fans even developed their own concepts for an icy map, like the Nordheim map. Now PUBG finally presents its own winter map. It is called Vikendi and is currently available on the test servers. It will be released this month.
Gameplay will change significantly, as you can now read tracks.
What do we know about Vikendi? Size, features
With a trailer, PUBG introduced the new snow map. Vikendi is located in Eastern Europe and brings players into a frozen landscape filled with small, snow-covered settlements.
How big is Vikendi? The map is PUBG’s first map that is 6×6 kilometers in size. This places it in the middle between Sanhok (4×4 kilometers) and Erangel and Miramar with 8×8 kilometers. The medium size is something special. This allows the developers to reach a compromise between players who appreciate the fast gameplay of Sanhok and the tactical conditions of the larger maps.
What makes the map special? You will encounter special places like frozen lakes, over which you can speed with vehicles. If you drive too fast, you easily lose control and crash into boats or rocks found on the lake.
Forests are denser on this map than before. This encourages new strategies when players suddenly disappear among hundreds of closely standing trees.
The snow also provides a special, new tactic: reading tracks.
When does the map come out? Vikendi is already active on the test servers.

In Vikendi, the hunter becomes the hunted
When you walk through the snow, you leave tracks. So, if you are pursuing another player, a third can see where you have walked. This opens up entirely new tactics.
How does reading tracks help? Previously, you could discover enemies in PUBG by doors being open, windows being broken, or making obvious noises. Now you can also recognize footprints in the snow and deduce which direction the other player walked and where they entered a house, even if the door has already been closed again.
Crawling in the snow also leaves tracks that other players can discover.
What traps can be created? By leaving tracks, you can also lure enemies into traps. If you notice that an enemy is following you, you can run behind a corner of a house. The enemy follows the tracks around the corner, where you are already waiting for them. This way, you can use the system for searching and laying traps.
