In the first cinematic of the new patch of WoW, things are heating up. No wonder, Anduin Wrynn confronts Wrathion and loses his composure …
Patch 8.3 Visions of N’Zoth is now live in Europe and many players are already going through the intro experience of the update or working on their Heart of Azeroth. In the process, they also get to enjoy a new cinematic that casts a dark light on Stormwind and its king, Anduin Wrynn. He indeed loses his composure and delivers a solid punch …
Spoiler Warning: The cinematic covers some key moments from the story of patch 8.3. If you want to experience it yourself first, you should not continue reading.
What can be seen? The cinematic depicts an emergency meeting in the palace of Stormwind. Anduin tries to figure out what N’Zoth is up to and how he will likely attack. Magni and Wrathion enter the throne room, whereupon Anduin stands up and delivers a significant punch to the black prince – so strong that even his scales briefly become visible.
Wrathion, however, remains unfazed, and the two discuss N’Zoth’s impending attacks. The dragon explains that N’Zoth will not attack with armies but will instead target the minds of people. At that moment, Anduin begins to see the effects of this attack and experiences a vision of Stormwind being destroyed, consumed by the old god.
He is able to free himself from these whispers and shows that he is already working on a solution with Wrathion and Magni.
Wrathion is also helping you again to create a new legendary cloak.
Why does Anduin hit the black prince? For some players, it may be surprising that Anduin greets Wrathion with a punch and accuses him of being responsible for his father’s death. The exact reason is not revealed in the game, but it was mentioned in the book “War Crimes” at the end of Mists of Pandaria.

Wrathion had freed Garrosh during his trial, thus helping him to travel into the alternate timeline of Draenor (Warlords of Draenor). This ultimately led to Gul’dan coming through the portal to Azeroth and launching the Burning Legion’s (Legion) attack. This circumstance ultimately resulted in Varian Wrynn, Anduin’s father, losing his life at the Broken Shore.
Wrathion has thus set in motion a chain of events that ultimately led to Varian’s death – that is precisely why the king gives him a beating.
Furthermore, Anduin may already be slightly under N’Zoth’s influence at the time of the blow, which he also notices later in the cinematic – after all, he does not like violence.
What do you think of this cinematic? How do you like Wrathion’s appearance and his beating?
