A new feature of Fortnite: Battle Royale lets you interact with the pets on your back and pet them. At least that’s the announcement from Epic. What ultimately ends up in the game looks quite different.
What should the new feature do? Anyone who has read the new patch notes for Update 8.40 carefully should have noticed a small entry: “You can now pet the dog (and other pets).”
It refers to the adorable little pets that have existed as back bling in the game since Season 6. So far, the little creatures just sat in their basket on your back and reacted to the respective situation.
With the update, you can now pet the creature when you approach a teammate from behind who has one.
Eagerly logged in many animal lovers with their little pets into the game, hoping for cute petting and cuddling animations.
Hey, what are you doing with my dog!?!
What do the animations look like in the game? But what you see when you approach an unsuspecting dog in the game with cuddly intentions is disappointing for many animal lovers.
Because Epic, according to many players, did not put much effort into the animations and apparently simply used the default door-opening animation for petting.
Therefore, it even looks, with a bit of imagination, as if the dog is receiving a hard slap when you perform the cuddling animation.
This is how players react: The association with hitting instead of petting caught the attention of numerous players who made fun of it on Reddit:
- “It looks like they are slapping my dog!”
- “I wish they had chosen a different petting animation than the one for opening doors. It looks like you are hitting the dog!”
- “A half-hearted attempt was made”
- “They took the door-opening animation and now think they have done something great!”
Jürgen’s conclusion: Indeed, the animation for petting animals looks extremely questionable. I would never treat (my) animal this way! So let’s hope that Epic makes improvements and puts more effort into the animation.
After all, we love our pets in Fortnite, and since so much love goes into their animations, it stands out even more when petting looks so shabby.
