The first-person shooter Battalion 1944 is currently exciting many players. The ego shooter receives a lot of praise in the Steam reviews. Even the well-known streamer Shroud is having a lot of fun with the game and explains why it is the best shooter for him at the moment. It reminds him of a mix between CS:GO and Call of Duty.
What is Battalion 1944? Battalion 1944 is primarily a competitive first-person shooter set in the Second World War. The game features various modes such as 5v5 matches or 1vs1 duels.
Since May 23, Battalion 1944 has been out of Early Access and available on Steam. Even during the EA phase, the shooter managed to attract some fans, and after its release, the trend on Steam is very positive.
Battalion 1944 is said to be so good that streamer Shroud, who is otherwise known from PUBG and Apex Legends, is overflowing with praise. In our special, we briefly introduce you to Battalion 1944 and summarize the reactions of the players.
Shroud is excited, “currently the best shooter”
Shroud has years of experience with first-person shooters and is known for his very good aiming ability. He has now extensively tested Battalion 1944 and commented on it in a stream.
This is what Shroud says about Battalion 1944: As he himself says, he has already spent several hours with the shooter. He seems to have really enjoyed them:

The reasons for him lie mainly in the parallels to Counter Strike and Call of Duty. He likes the simple, competitive aspect of the gameplay and the modes:
But there is a reason – it is very competitive. Very, very similar to Counter-Strike and CoD, as you jump around corners, shoot, there is the dropshot and all that. So it is like a mix of Call of Duty and CS:GO in one game. So very competitive, very challenging.

Battalion 1944 serves fans of competitive shooters
Since the full release on May 23, the positive reviews on Steam have significantly increased. In the last 30 days, the shooter has received 72% positive reviews, making it “mostly” positive.
However, over the entire period, the title has only 55% positive reviews and is thus “mixed.”
During the Early Access phase, there were always problems that led to mixed ratings for a while. This has apparently improved significantly.
This is what the Steam critics say about the shooter: Many see it similarly to Shroud. Battalion 1944 also feels like Call of Duty or Counter Strike to other players.
Especially those who like these series will likely enjoy the shooter. One player, frylich, writes on Steam: “Call of Duty? The golden competitive FPS times of the series are long gone. With Battalion 1944, a revival is possible!”
Shroud’s impression that it is a challenging shooter is also confirmed by other players. As in the review by z0nyy: “Feeling like a challenge? No scripted crap where everyone has a good experience. It’s not an easy shooter. Requires quite a bit of practice. Strong learning curve.”
But not everything is perfect. Some testers criticize the technical state of the game, which seems to need improvement even after the end of the Early Access phase.
Overall, many players are excited and happy to finally get a more classic, competitive shooter.
What does competitive even mean? It means that you mainly compete against other players. As in classic FPS, Battalion is mostly about taking down other players and having a positive ratio between your deaths and kills.
- The better the ratio, the better the “skill.” In competitions, you constantly compare yourself to others.
- This principle is what made shooter series like Call of Duty and Counter Strike so great, but it has been increasingly overshadowed by newer shooters.
