The famous streamer Ninja confesses that he is glad not to be a pro in Apex Legends. He prefers to keep playing Fortnite, even though he is actually good at Apex.
This is what Ninja says: Shortly after Ninja received a baseless ban from Apex Legends, he talked about his career and the two games during his stream. He said:
I was really good at Apex. If I had stuck with it, I would be one of the best players in the game. But I’m really happy that I stayed with Fortnite.
The competitive scene [in Apex] is so small, it’s so tiny. There’s a manageable number of players in it and I really enjoy watching, but it’s just so small.
The relevant passage begins in the embedded video at about minute 2:05.
His ban has nothing to do with this, by the way. It has since been lifted.
What’s going on with E-Sports in Apex Legends?
The scene is as big as this: Apex Legends has only been on the market since February 2019 and has only been able to deal with E-Sports for a few months. One of the best and most well-known players, dizzy, has already retired.
The team that dizzy competed with earned relatively little in the won tournament. Generally, the prize pools of Apex Legends are still quite low compared to other games that can really be played as a profession.
However, the scene appears to be growing. A tournament with a prize pool of $3 million is scheduled for February 2020. While it still lags far behind Fortnite ($40 million at the World Cup), it is a start.
How is Ninja doing at all?
This is the situation with Ninja: Ninja himself switched from Twitch to Mixer some time ago. Since then, he has been streaming on Microsoft’s platform, still regularly, but apparently with significantly less success.
Since his switch, only about a quarter of the audience watches him on average now. Apparently, it is still worth it for him to keep going, as he continues to regularly appear on camera.
The Twitch streamer DrDisrespect has also commented on this. For him, it is clear: you can’t take viewers with you.
