Sergey Titov is back. He previously made waves with games like The War Z and Wild West Online. Now he has released a new zombie survival game, Outbreak: New Dawn, which some are already warning about.
What kind of game is this? Outbreak: The New Dawn places you in a world five years after the zombie apocalypse. The last surviving humans have retreated to fortified camps but must repeatedly search for resources and food.
You are one of these survivors. Together, you set out to explore the devastated world, gather loot, complete quests for NPCs, and clash with zombies. You improve your heroes through skills and new weapons.
This is still an early access version, for which you can buy access in the form of a founder’s package on the official website of Outbreak: New Dawn. These packages cost between 35 and 100 euros. A Steam release is expected to take place in 2021 when the survival game officially launches.
Who is Sergey Titov? Sergey Titov is behind the online survival game The War Z, which was released in alpha version on December 17, 2012, via Steam. Just two days later, the game was taken offline again. The accusation of misleading advertising was raised because The War Z did not actually have some of the advertised features. For example, there were no skills and no private servers, even though the game was advertised as such.
In June 2013, the game was relaunched under the name Infestation: Survivor Stories due to copyright issues stemming from the previous title. The title was too close to that of the blockbuster film World War Z.
In 2015, the same developer released the game Romero’s Aftermath, also a zombie survival game, which has strong similarities to Infestation.
Both Infestation and Romero’s Aftermath are no longer being developed. The online action game Wild West Online has also been attributed to Sergey Titov. This game no longer exists in its previous form. Instead, it returned as two games:
- The PvP survival game New Frontier
- The battle royale game Magnificent 5
Just in March, a new game called Infestation: Battle Royale was released, which mixes zombie survival with battle royale and is based on the games of Sergey Titov. All titles are in an unfinished state, if they still exist at all.
Players warn against buying
Why are there warnings about Outbreak: The New Dawn? Essentially, this is again a rehash of The War Z, or rather Infestation: Survivor Stories. It uses the same engine and apparently the same assets as well as a very similar gameplay. It is still in an early development phase and is unfinished. Nevertheless, access is supposed to cost between 35 and 100 euros already.
This is what players say about the new title:
- Avaral35 says on reddit: “Don’t buy it! Titov is a crafty fraud!”
- ElvenNeko explains: “If he’s still doing this, it means people are buying it and it is profitable. And that’s kind of sad.”
- rockymc writes: “He even reused the same models and screenshots from Infestation / WarZ. These buildings look just like Campus City buildings.”
- MrBla says: “He is a genius. He knows how to fool people and get away with it. He is a deceiver, but people will fall for his lies and willingly give him money again.”
What does Sergey Titov think about all this? The producer of the games is quite diplomatic:
It has always been a love-hate relationship. A certain percentage of our players are big fans, and we do [Outbreak] primarily for them. But there has always been a group of people on the other end of the spectrum who hate what we do, and they simply do not get the gaming experience they expect from [our games], and we understand that.
