In The Division 2, there are hints that you will return to New York in Year 1. Agents have already come up with ideas about what this return might look like.
Why do agents believe in a return to NY? The first hint suggesting a return to New York was shared on Reddit a few days ago. Reports indicate that such images are hanging on walls in various places in Washington D.C.:

What is this all about?
Perhaps “NYC After Dark” simply means … nothing at all. It could be just a design in the game without further significance. However, many agents do not believe this.
What agents believe: Instead, many are convinced that this is a hidden hint from Massive about what the third content expansion of The Division 2 will deliver – namely a return to New York, where The Division 1 took place.
So far, only the names of the first two DLCs in Year 1 are known, while the name of DLC 3 is absent from the official infographic:
- D.C. Outskirts: Expeditions is DLC 1
- Pentagon: The Last Castle is DLC 2
In both cases, the location is mentioned first in the DLC name, followed by another expression. Therefore,
- NYC: After Dark
would fit well as a DLC name. So is this really the name of the third DLC?
What is currently known about the third DLC:
- According to the Year 1 content trailer, the 3rd DLC will conclude the first chapter of the storyline of The Division 2 and pave the way for more upcoming content. No further details have been provided.
- All that is known is that DLC 3 is supposed to be released next winter. Therefore, a January release indicated by “NYC: After Dark” is not far-fetched.
Interestingly, the upper Year 1 content graphic only shows the location of DLC 3 blurred. The locations of the other DLCs are clearly depicted. This could be another hint that DLC 3 will not take place in Washington D.C.
Keep in mind that all this New York info about the third DLC is unconfirmed and based on player speculation.
What could the return to New York look like?
New York could be added as a secondary location – where, as some agents hope, a survival mode will take place.
Because the creative director Julian Gerighty said months ago, that he would be “very surprised” if a survival mode did not eventually come to The Division 2. He himself is a big fan of this mode, which did not receive enough attention in The Division 1 due to the paid DLC model.
He therefore hinted at a survival mode for The Division 2.

Fans are now speculating that a portion of the New York map could return as a survival area in The Division 2. After all, Massive would hardly have to change the setting – New York from part 1 was in constant winter, and DLC 3 of The Division 2 will also be released in winter. This would fit perfectly.
Additionally, agent fryingpandroid shared the “NYC After Dark” image on Twitter and speculated that it might indicate a survival mode.
