The current Halloween event in Pokémon GO lasts a full 2 weeks and offers various bonuses. For our author Noah, this event is the highlight of the year.
Halloween always represents something bad for me. I can’t get into horror movies, and the end of October always heralds the arrival of winter. It’s going to get cold.
But since the release of Pokémon GO in 2016, I’ve been looking forward to Halloween every year. It’s event time at PoGO, and for the past 3 years, this event has continued to impress me.
Halloween event offers everything you need
It all started: The first Halloween event in 2016 is a reason to love this occasion. It was the very first event in Pokémon GO.
Suddenly, the spawns were different, and rare Pokémon like Tragosso or Nebulak were everywhere. I was internally cheering every time I caught a Gengar back then. That was really special, and I spent hours at the event.
I remember it was pouring rain, but I was walking through the city with an umbrella in hand. Those were the days when I had the most fun in Pokémon GO.
This is what the Halloween event stands for: The following Halloween events were also always special. Each time, there were new Pokémon to catch, and spooky ghosts came into play. In 2017, it was Shuppet, Zwirrlicht, and Co., in 2018 then Driftlon and more Pokémon from Gen 4, and now in 2019, Makabaja.
With each event start, new shadows were near, and you could diligently complete the Pokédex.
A paradise for Shiny hunters: The spawns at Halloween are teeming with Shiny checks, and anyone who invests a bit of time will surely find one or two shiny specimens.
Almost every event Pokémon can be Shiny, and it’s worth clicking on every monster. Annoying Pokémon like Nasgnet, Kinoso, or Mogelbaum are rarely found.
This is how it goes in 2019: This year, I am spending a lot of time in the game. The spawns are just right, and the raid boss is a blessing. I have already caught around 5,000 Pokémon in just a few days and will continue to be active in the coming days.
A special highlight for me are the numerous Lichtel that are currently spawning. While I still lack Kaumalat or Kapuno, I was at least able to develop Lichtel and have a strong new Pokémon on my team.
Is it the best event in the game? In terms of bonuses, there are definitely better events. Double candies are nice, but triple stardust is much better, for example.
However, the event offers a lot of variety. You can go Shiny hunting, defeat a strong raid boss, or catch rare Pokémon like Lichtel.
Especially because it has this nostalgia factor and was the first event in Pokémon GO, the time around Halloween is always special for me, and I am out and about even more than usual.
