In Destiny 2, there was an exploit in the new dungeon “Prophecy” that allowed players to loot valuable items multiple times at the end and share them with other guardians. That is now over.
What is the exploit about? After Bungie recently stopped the popular AFK farm method in the forges of the Black Armory, players recently discovered a new loot exploit.
In the new Prophecy dungeon, it was possible to loot the final items multiple times – including Umbral Engrams, dungeon loot, and (once a week) also high-tier gear. If players secured the corresponding checkpoint, they could exploit it with additional characters and also share it with friends or other players – essentially infinitely.
Bungie reacts quickly: The exploit spread quickly on YouTube and social media. Many players assumed Bungie would not let it be for long. And they were right.
Last night, the studio spoke on Twitter, announcing that they have swiftly put a stop to the exploit. This appears to be a server-side change – there was no new update.
How did Bungie solve this? Due to some recent solutions, many feared that Bungie might temporarily disable the dungeon until a permanent fix was found. Luckily, that did not happen.
Only the final checkpoint in the dungeon has been disabled, making the exploit no longer possible. The activity remains fully available – at least until Season 12 and the start of Year 4. Then the Prophecy dungeon will temporarily disappear from the game as planned.
By the way, if you had just reached this checkpoint, you will now lose it.
Are there penalties? There is currently no official statement on this. However, it is unlikely that exploiting the exploit will be sanctioned by Bungie. Such errors “in favor of the players” are typically not punished.
What do the players say? Although some are sad that this exploit has been fixed or that they lost their checkpoint – the majority of reactions under the tweet were positive. Guardians appreciate that Bungie was able to react quickly.
However, many criticize: Quick reactions only happen for certain errors that either work in favor of players or are “just fun”. Many other issues, considered at least as critical by many, remain untouched for weeks, months, or sometimes entire seasons.
Many wish that Bungie would respond in a timely manner to all comparable issues.
