The Twitch streamer Turner “Tfue” Tenney (21) was the most viewed streamer on Twitch in 2019. Fortnite brought him to the top. Confronted with these numbers, he does not seem euphoric, but rather as if he would have preferred to win an award. Nevertheless, he says: “Numbers don’t lie.”
What numbers are these? Tfue looks at a clip showing which Twitch channels had the most viewed hours in 2019. Here, Tfue is in 3rd place with 88.05 million hours – behind RiotGames (LoL) and the Overwatch League.
But Tfue is far ahead of other individual streamers like summit1g, xQc, shroud, or Asmongold. He has about 20 million more viewed hours than the second largest individual streamer on Twitch.
This makes the Fortnite star the number 1 streamer and the “new face of Twitch” – after Tyler “Ninja” Blevins held the title in 2018 and before Guy “DrDisrespect” Beahm claimed it (where DrDisrespect still considers himself the face of Twitch in 2020).
Tfue: We didn’t win any awards
How does Tfue react to these numbers? Tfue must actually know that he was the most viewed streamer in 2019, even before he sees the numbers again on esportobserver. In the clip, he seems somehow strange. He says:
„Listen up, guys. We didn’t win any streamer awards this year or any eSports awards, but at the end of the day: the numbers don’t lie.”

Tfue then thanks his viewers for their support but says again, “they brought him to the top over all the streamers who were awarded.”
At the end of the clip, Tfue highlights the subtitle “The New Face of Twitch.”
What’s going on with Tfue? Tfue seems upset in the clip that he didn’t win an award in 2019. There are various awards that Tfue might have been keen on.
For example, the eSports Awards 2019 were held in November:
- Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag won “eSports Personality of the Year”
- YouTuber Craig “Mini Ladd” Thompson was named “eSports Content Creator of the Year”
- Fortnite World Champion Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf was crowned PC Player of the Year
- DrDisrespect won the title for Streamer of the Year – having also won it in 2017
At the “The Game Awards 2019”, a major event, Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf, the Fortnite World Champion, also won the title of eSports Player of the Year.
Apparently, it bothers Tfue that despite clearly being number 1 on Twitch in 2019, he couldn’t win any awards:
- he is neither honored as a major eSports player, even though he plays Fortnite much better than most other Twitch streamers
- he is also not honored as a streamer, personality, or content creator, even though he was more successful than anyone else
In 2018, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins took home two first-place awards for Streamer and Personality of the Year at the eSports Awards. Clearly, it was still customary to give the most successful Twitch streamer an award then. However, Tfue went home empty-handed in 2019.
Tfue is evidently an ambitious person, as is often noticed, so it seems to bother him that he couldn’t win an award.
In the Shadow of Ninja
Ninja was number 1 on Twitch in 2018 but had significantly more viewer hours than Tfue in 2019, which is also likely due to the fact that Fortnite had a different status on Twitch in 2018 than in 2019.
Following the departure of Ninja and shroud, Tfue is the active streamer on Twitch with the most followers, although in the past few months only Asmongold through WoW and recently xQc have dominated the streaming platform Twitch.
Tfue seems somehow dissatisfied with his position as “number 1” on Twitch and has already taken a longer break.
