TFT: These 3 combos are the best in patch 10.17 – here’s how to use them optimally

On August 18, Patch 10.17 for Teamfight Tactics was released. This made only minor changes to champions and items. We present you the combos that currently dominate the patch.

What’s new? Patch 10.17 hasn’t changed much in TFT. The focus of the update was on small adjustments to champions and items. The most important changes are:

  • Jarvan IV was one of the strongest 1-gold units and has been weakened in armor.
  • Blitzcrank, on the other hand, gained armor.
  • Cassiopeia deals more damage in the late game at level 3
  • Riven received a buff in health points and magic resistance
  • Gankplank was slightly weakened at level 1 and 2
  • Mechs received a change in scaling that makes them weaker in the early game but stronger in the late game.

Despite the changes, the meta has hardly changed. Fizz, Jhin, and Teemo are still among the strongest champs in the game, and the Mechs are still strong.

You can find all the changes from 10.17 in this video:

Note: This guide was originally created in April 2020 and is updated for new patches. The last adjustment was made for Patch 10.17 on August 20, 2020.

Combo 1 – Astro-Snipers

Which champions are used in the combo? One of the strongest combos in Patch 10.16 relies on Jhin and Teemo, even though both were weakened in this update:

  • Blitzcrank – Chrono/Brawler
  • Gnar – Astro/Brawler
  • Nautilus – Astro/Frontline
  • Wukong – Chrono/Frontline
  • Soraka – Starcaster/Mystic
  • Teemo – Astro/Sniper
  • Jhin – Starcaller/Sniper
  • Karma – Starcaller/Mystic

These attributes are used by the combo:

  • 3 Astro
  • 2 Brawler
  • 2 Chrono
  • 2 Frontline
  • 2 Starcaller
  • 2 Mystic
  • 2 Sniper

What items does the combo need? A big advantage of the combo is that it is very flexible with items. However, carry items on Jhin and Teemo, including Guardian Angel, are useful.

  • Jhin: Guardian Angel, Last Breath, Infinity Blade
  • Teemo: Rabadon’s Deathcap, Seraph’s Embrace, Morellonomicon

How does the early game look? The combo plays well if you start quickly with the snipers Caitlyn/Ashe or one of the two carries, Jhin or Teemo.

Furthermore, you will quickly find Blitzcrank and Nautilus for the frontline, which should allow you a secure midgame. After that, it is advisable to fill the combo with the two carries.

Jhin plays an important role in this combo.

What’s the gold plan? Try to be dominant as early as possible to generate gold through winning streaks. Your combo works fairly early and can be flexibly exchanged.

It really goes online at level 7. That should be your goal fairly early. Fast 8 (i.e., quickly leveling to 8) is not necessary.

When should you not play this build? If 3 other players are already going in the same direction, then the combo, like many others, is unplayable.

Are there alternative builds? Alternatively to those mentioned above, you can opt for 4 Snipers, with Caitlyn and Vayne. This can be particularly good if you reach level 9. Then, you just need to swap one of the brawlers.

Combo 2 – Mech/Infiltrator/Blaster

Which champions are used in the combo? The combo relies on the 3 Mech pilots who together form a super mech. In addition, the two legendaries Gankplank and Ekko are used to strengthen the combo in the late game. An important factor for the strength of the combo was the change to Hand of Justice in Patch 10.16:

  • Rumble – Mech/Blaster
  • Annie – Mech/Mage
  • Fizz – Mech/Infiltrator
  • Viktor – Battlecast/Mage
  • Karma – Starcaller/Mystic
  • Soraka – Starcaster/Mystic
  • Gankplank – Mercenary/Space Pirate/Blaster
  • Ekko – Cybernetic/Infiltrator – Alternatively Shaco – Starcaller/Infiltrator

These attributes are used by the combo:

  • 3 Mechs
  • 2 Blasters
  • 2 Infiltrators
  • 2 Mages
  • 2 Mystics
  • 1 Mercenary

What items does the combo need? The combo works best if you collect items on Rumble, Gankplank, and Viktor:

  • Rumble: Quicksilver, Hand of Justice, Titan’s Resolve
  • Gankplank: Morellonomicon, Guardian Angel
  • Viktor: Morellonomicon, Spear of Shojin

How does the early game look? Here too, you initially focus on a stronger frontline behind which champions like Annie can hide. A good combo consists of 2 Brawlers and 2 Mages.

As soon as you get Fizz and Rumble, you offensively focus on the Mech pilots. Gankplank, Ekko, and Soraka are filled in later.

LoL-Rumble
Rumble becomes the super mech and receives most of the items in the combo.

What’s the gold plan? You also quickly save up to 50 gold here but start rolling out from level 6 and trying to find and level up the important champions. You want to achieve a 3-star Annie and a 3-star Rumble since both will buff your Mech pilots.

When should you not play this build? If 2 or more other players are already saving on Mechs, you should leave it, unless you get to a 2-star version early.

Combo 3 – 6 Blademasters

Which champions are used in the combo? The combo relies on Blademasters, as well as Rebels and Infiltrators. The combo is very strong in the late game and is primarily carried by Yi and Zed:

  • Zed – Rebel/Infiltrator + Blademaster with item
  • Master Yi – Rebel/Blademaster
  • Yasuo – Rebel/Blademaster
  • Shen – Chrono/Blademaster
  • Riven – Chrono/Blademaster
  • Xayah – Celestial/Blademaster
  • Fizz – Mech/Infiltrator
  • Ekko – Cybernetic/Infiltrator
Blademaster TFT S Tier

These attributes are used by the combo:

  • 6 Blademasters
  • 2 Chrono
  • 3 Rebels
  • 2 Infiltrators

What items does the combo need? The combo relies on getting a Spatula to turn Zed into a Blademaster:

  • Zed – Blade of the Ruined King
  • Master Yi – Rapid Firecannon, Bloodthirster, Runaan’s Hurricane
  • Shen – Warmog’s Armor, Cloak of Silence

How does the early game look? At the beginning, you play very slowly and aim to quickly get to 50 gold. It may be sensible to aim for a loss streak to achieve this and get to the item Spatula.

In the beginning, collect Xayah and Fiora, but stay with Rebels and Brawlers like Malphite to avoid losing too much. In the mid-game, you can temporarily use Fiora or Irelia as a substitute for Riven and then swap later.

Zed is one of your carries in the combo.

What’s the gold plan? You also quickly save up to 50 gold and level slowly up to level 7. Then you try to get your 6 Blademasters on the field. Go quickly to level 8 to complete your combo.

When should you not play this build? If you haven’t got a Spatula after the first carousel and NPC rounds or too many other players are going Blademasters.
