What does one actually do when the guild master is missing in the fantasy MMO The Elder Scrolls Online, TESO? Our columnist Björn experienced this and tells about it.
Generous Change of the Guild Master in The Elder Scrolls Online
As we know, big MMOs like The Elder Scrolls Online or WildStar launched this year. Initially, there was excited anticipation, perhaps followed by some disillusionment in the beta, and unfortunately, for some, there was only frustration after the release. The long-awaited new star on the MMO horizon turned out to be just hot air for some gamers. What a shame!
And it gets really annoying when among these passionate gamers is the suffering guild master of my favorite guild, and the guy or girl just leaves without any explanation. So, what now?
Without a word, the supposed leader, who founded our community with so much enthusiasm, disappears. Perhaps we already have a well-stocked guild bank, perhaps a dedicated trader?! Maybe we want a guild tabard and our own auctioneers now?! Well, that’s not possible, because the settings might be so poorly chosen that the officers – if they are still there – can hardly decide or configure anything themselves. So? A new leader is needed! BUT it’s not that easy!
To do this, the support needs to be contacted, and initially, you have to explain the situation to them. But the guys and gals there are really helpful.
The old guild master receives an email (see below), and – and this is a really nice marketing trick! – he also gets three days of game time for transferring the master title. This is, of course, also intended to remind the old player of what they have missed since their absence and whether a return to the atmospheric world of The Elder Scrolls Online is worth it. Unfortunately, in our case, it unfortunately did not lead to the player’s return, but it’s a nice and clever gesture from the creators of TESO!
We have received the request to transfer the leadership of your guild “Auenwächter*” to someone else since you have been inactive for more than 30 days. Our investigation has confirmed this.
Although we regret that you are currently not playing The Elder Scrolls Online, your guild would greatly appreciate it if you would promote one of its members to the new guild master.
We are sending you a game time code for three days to allow you to log in and transfer the guild leadership. Feel free to use the remaining game time to explore Tamriel and see what has changed in the game in the meantime.
XYUNGELÖST*
We would be happy to welcome you back to The Elder Scrolls Online in the future! If you have questions or if we can do anything for you, let us know.
Best regards

*Note: All names and codes have been changed, of course.
So:
Your guild master is also gone? Then contact TESO support, explain the situation, and probably grant the lady or gentleman 3 days of game time. Who could say “no” to that? 😉
And what are your experiences regarding this? Is the guild master still there, how are you doing with it in other games? Or asked differently, are you a master and players are leaving you? In TESO it has long been common to provide the statement “We kick you out after 20 days offline” when promoting a trade guild – which might not sound nice, but is fair! 😀
