On August 21, the servers for TERA on PS4 and Xbox One will be merged. From 22 servers, there will only be 7 shards left. To ensure that everything goes smoothly during the merge, players will receive five free character slots.
As EnMasse announces, the number of servers for TERA on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be reduced and merged into new shards on August 21.
The merge could take up to 12 hours on that day, during which the servers will be inaccessible. The merge starts on August 21 at 6 AM and could last until 6 PM.

Which servers will be merged? From 22 to 7
Console servers will be reduced: Of the currently 22 shards, four servers will remain on PS4 and three servers on Xbox One.

What will happen to my characters? Players with characters on more than one server will receive the highest number of character slots available on the new server. If you have four characters on one server and two characters on another, you will receive four slots after the merge on the new shard.
However, En Masse will grant each player 5 free character slots in the week prior. These must be added to the server where the player has the most characters.

No characters will be deleted during the merge. However, you may need to adjust your character numbers.
What you need to consider during the merge
Possible name change: If multiple characters on the new servers have the same name, the player with the most playtime will be able to keep their name. The other player will be prompted to choose a new name for their character upon their first login on the new server.
The same applies to guilds: If two or more guilds on the new servers have the same name, the older guild will also be able to keep their name. The younger guild will be prompted to change their name.
Additionally, the following details are noted:
- The friends list will remain after the server merge. However, please keep in mind that some of your friends may have to change their names
- Items for trade in offers will also remain. However, the merge will combine different economic areas, which could impact profits
- Items registered with the trade agent will be sent to players as a package. It is recommended to withdraw all items from the trade agent before the server merge begins
- Mail and package deliveries will remain fully intact
- All items in banks will be placed in a temporary bank on the new servers and can be stored in the normal vault from there
- The items in the item output are not affected by the server merge

What players think about the merge
Players view the server merge critically: A glance into the official TERA forum and Reddit makes it clear that some players are not very satisfied with the upcoming server merge. They wonder whether the reduction of shards just four months after the release on consoles could be a bad sign for the action MMO.
Players on the PvP servers, on the other hand, wish for a merge of their servers with a PvE world. The situation in the PvP worlds is serious. One player joked that he would soon need to buy a second console so that he could at least play against himself on his PvP server.
