The upcoming patch for TERA brings numerous innovations aimed at exciting new players and returnees.
More Comfort and Newcomer Friendliness
For the European players under the flag of Gameforge, a major patch is coming up that will significantly revamp TERA in several areas. We have taken a look at the various adjustments that are intended to make the game more accessible to newcomers and returnees. In addition, veterans can look forward to some improvements, especially in the area of chat functions.
The New Starting Area: The Dream Tree Island
The most noticeable change is the new starting area, where players will begin after the patch is introduced. This island replaces the old “Island of Twilight” and it will no longer be possible to quest or gather resources in the old area.

What initially appears to be an idyllic place inviting for relaxation quickly reveals itself as a deadly battlefield, as the Argons invade the island and seek to tap into the mysterious sources of power. Players must defend the location while exploring the secrets of why the Dream Tree Island has not been visible on the map until now…
Character Creation – Easier to Understand
A small change with a big impact has been made in character creation. The handling has been simplified, making it easier to see at first glance which classes a particular race and gender combination has. The customization options for your character remain extensive as before.
The selection screen for your existing characters has also been revamped: instead of standing statically on pedestals, your characters now slowly march out of the mist toward their fate. While this has no gameplay value, it looks incredibly cool.
More Character Names than Before
To offer players a greater variety of character names, the old system is being relaxed a bit, allowing for some special characters. Instead of relying solely on single names like “Klaus” or “klaus”, one can now use periods, hyphens, and underscores. So everyone can look forward to combinations like “Hero.Klaus” or “Killer_Klaus”. A bit unfortunate is that spaces are not allowed, as they are automatically replaced by periods. There are probably limitations to the existing system.
Chat Channels – Less Spam, More Individuality
The chat channels of TERA have always been dominated by spam. With the latest patch, they aim to at least partially address these issues. The “Looking for Group” channel has become dynamic, meaning that only players within 4 levels above or below your level can see your messages.
To give players more options in creating private chat rooms, a dedicated menu has now been implemented for this purpose. Previously, private channels could only be created via cumbersome chat commands, which generally was not a user-friendly feature.
Anyone who wants to be a special snowflake for 10 seconds can now purchase megaphones in the in-game shop, which display chat messages specifically for all players above the chat leader.
Battlefields – More Overview and Newcomer Tips
To give battlefield newcomers some assistance, many new icons have been implemented, making it clear at first glance what needs to be done on the respective map. At the same time, new players will receive useful tips and hints during their first 10 matches until they become familiar with the various environments and can beat opponents on their own.
Bonuses for Returning Players
Because returning players have had a tough time in TERA, improvements are also being made in this area. Since the game reached a level cap of 65, there have been some changes that inactive players who haven’t logged in for years may struggle with. To directly “pick up” these players after login, there is a screen that summarizes the most important changes immediately after logging in. At the same time, returnees (anyone who hasn’t logged in for at least 30 days) will receive a starter pack with solid gear to dive right into the newer adventures of the game.
One last tip: Anyone who logs in within the first seven days after the patch will receive a winged headband that looks quite stylish on female characters.
