Have you always dreamed of a Pokémon MMO? Temtem makes it happen, bringing new Temtem monsters instead of Pikachu and co. You can catch them and have them battle against each other.
In Temtem, you catch monsters in the wild, collect them, and have them compete against other monsters. It is an MMO that is heavily inspired by Pokémon – and that is not hidden. The game has now reached the goal of its Kickstarter campaign. €59,880 was set as the goal, and the campaign has now surpassed €103,000. New features are still being unlocked.
What is Temtem anyway?
The game is produced by the Spanish studio Crema. In Temtem, you try to become the best tamer in the game. You discover new species, build the perfect battle team, and fight against eight dojo leaders. The battles are turn-based, and the elements of the monsters play an important role.
You will also often encounter members of the Belsoto clan in the game. This group fights against Temtems and humans.
Does that sound familiar? An evil organization that is against the monsters and “tamers” of the game. The references to the Pokémon games with the villains from Team Rocket are obvious. The developers do not hide this either. They clearly state that their game has been inspired by Pokémon.
However, it all takes place as an MMO. You have a story that sends you across six islands. But it doesn’t have to happen alone. The world counts as “massively multiplayer” – trainers from all over the globe can see you, join you, and play together with you.
Co-op battles are included
The battles in Temtem usually take place with four players in a 2-vs-2 mode. However, there are also 2v1 battles against untamed, wild Temtems or 1v1 battles in tournaments. In these battles, chance should play no role at all; everything depends on your skill and strategy.
Tournaments are an important factor in Temtem. There is even a ban system that allows you to block one of your opponent’s Temtem for the match, forcing them to choose another fighter.
The co-founder of the Crema studio explains that growing up and playing with Pokémon are among his best childhood memories. With Temtem, they want to share those good experiences with players and also incorporate the features they dreamed of in the past.
- This way, it should be possible to breed your own monsters. This will create Temtems with perfect stats.
- Housing is also included. You can buy your own house in the game and decorate it as you wish.
- Houses of other players can be visited.
Temtem is set to be released in Early Access in September 2019. An alpha phase is planned for 2018. The game will initially be released only for PC. A version for consoles PS4 and Xbox One is also planned. If the Kickstarter goal of $250,000 is reached, the studio wants to release Temtem for the Nintendo Switch as well.
Something is happening with the “real” Pokémon too: Pokémon Let’s GO Pikachu and Let’s GO Evoli have been announced for the Nintendo Switch
