In MMORPGs, players take on the roles of heroes, adventurers, or a character who simply wants to take on evil. Usually, you can customize the appearance of this character to your liking. However, not every character editor goes into great detail. We at MeinMMO want to know how important such an editor is to you.
What types of character editors are there? One of the first things that every player experiences in an MMORPG is the character editor. However, this can vary greatly.
Black Desert, for example, offers almost everything you could wish for in its editor:
- You have a choice of numerous faces, hairstyles, and body shapes
- Almost all body areas have their own sliders, where you can adjust size and shape
- You have the option of over 256 different colors for hair and 40 for eyes
- However, everything remains realistic in proportions here
On the other hand, there are games that offer very few customization options. One of these is New World. There, there are only a few selected pre-made faces, hairstyles, and colors for hair and eyes. There are no sliders for adjusting body shapes at all.
The third type of character editor goes particularly “extreme”. Here, you can adjust all sizes and shapes as you like, regardless of whether it makes sense or not. A special example would be League of Maidens.
However, some MMORPGs also completely forgo an editor, such as the new Lineage 2M. Here, only the choice of class affects your appearance. All members of the same class, however, have the same appearance, which is only adjusted by the armor worn.
How important is a good character editor to you?
Here’s how you can vote: You can cast your vote as always in the survey tool below. Please note that you can only make your choice once, and it cannot be undone.
Feel free to also leave a comment about what is particularly important to you. Does it need to have many sliders like in BDO, or would a simplified version like in New World suffice? Must it be realistic, or can it also be quirky? We look forward to your comments.
In connection with the character editor, there is currently criticism regarding Lost Ark. In the western version, characters are supposed to be less revealing and also have darker skin options than in Russia or Korea:
