Hardware can break quickly. Especially when it receives strong external impacts. Not so with a persistent specimen of a graphics card. Although the component did not survive in one piece, it could still be revived.
How was the GPU damaged? The content creator Brother Zhang shows in his YouTube video from February 4, 2026 a wrecked 3080 Ti, which has significant damage. He received it from a customer, who claimed that the card had taken two hits.
As a result, the back of the card is heavily dented in several places and the PCB is noticeably warped. However, the damage is not limited to the outer casing of the GPU.
When opening the card, the technician found that the break in the board of the hardware is extremely pronounced and some parts inside the card are burnt out.
According to the technician, these parts are no longer salvageable and it would only make sense to test the graphics chip of the component and thus save the hardware. How resistant graphics cards can be, another technician found out, who managed to save a GPU with a hole.

A miracle still happens with spare parts
How does the YouTuber repair the component? After several tests and consultation with the customer, Brother Zhang concludes that the card is no longer salvageable except for the chip.
He removed the graphics chip from the damaged board, cleaned it, and then soldered the chip onto a working replacement part.
The whole process was not easy and required some minor adjustments before the card could be recognized again by a PC.
After that, the GPU was functional again and the YouTuber put it through a stress test, which the component passed without problems.
Broken hardware can often be repaired
What can I do if my graphics card is damaged? If you also own a damaged GPU, it can still be saved with a bit of luck:
- Send it to the vendor. Most GPU vendors like NVIDIA, Asus, Gigabyte, and Zotac offer the possibility of sending in your graphics card. It will then be inspected and either repaired or replaced under an existing warranty claim. Important: Even if your warranty has expired, you can ask customer service if they can repair your graphics card for a fee. It’s best to request a quote in advance if you’re unsure whether a repair is financially worthwhile.
- Take it to a repair shop near you. Most larger cities have shops that can offer PC and hardware repairs among other services.
Components can take quite a bit of damage before they become unusable forever. Nevertheless, you should take good care of them and try to avoid damage as much as possible. Also, keep in mind possible repair costs and always request a quote.
