Two days ago, a bot for Teamfight Tactics launched on Twitch, controlled by the chat. Surprisingly, it is doing quite well, as the bot has already reached the Gold league.
How successful is Twitch Plays TFT? As of the news on July 22nd, the bot is ranked Gold 4 after exactly 100 games.
According to the LoLChess website, it ranks in the top 11% of all TFT players, making it more successful than 89% of actual players. However, it should be noted that the Ranked Mode was only introduced on Wednesday.
Additionally, the Twitch channel for the project is currently still relatively small. On average, only 150 to 400 people watch the stream. This could also be a reason why the bot is so successful. With fewer people, there is less chaos – coordinated play is more achievable with fewer participants.
How does the Twitch chat control the bot? Viewers can control the bot through chat commands. The game board is divided into numbers and the bank into letters. There are also numbers for the items.
With the appropriate commands, players can make the bot purchase specific champions or place them in the correct position. It is also easy to roll new champions or level up.
Of course, the troll potential in such projects is quite large. However, Twitch Plays has many positive experiences to look back on.
Twitch Plays – A successful social experiment?
What is Twitch Plays? Twitch Plays is about the community controlling a bot via chat, which in turn plays the game. It all started with Twitch Plays Pokémon in February 2014.
The project performed very well despite all negative expectations. Many anticipated chaos, as each input from viewers could influence the course of the game. Every command is executed in the order it was sent, none are skipped.
Even though there were recurring difficulties and coordination issues, the chat was able to collectively overcome all hurdles and defeat the top 4.
So far, several editions have been successfully completed. Other games are also played by the community, including Dark Souls, Plants vs. Zombies, and Hearthstone. There is even a specific category on Twitch for this.
What does the future hold for Twitch Plays TFT? It is hard to say whether the community can genuinely keep up in a competitive game mode. However, an auto battler like TFT is ideally suited for such a project.
However, the creator TheDavenger has already confirmed on Reddit that he has banned certain trolls who ruined the gaming experience for others. This contradicts the very idea of Twitch Plays.
The next patch for TFT is set to be released next week:
