On the night of October 23, patch 9.21 for Teamfight Tactics was released. The last update of Set 1 focuses on minor balance adjustments, including player damage and buffing some items.
What are the highlights of the update? If you’re having trouble getting the right items from the carousel, the latest patch in TFT now ensures that at least some of the rarely built items are becoming more useful:
- The duration of “Amulet of the Iron Solari” has been increased from 7 seconds to 8 seconds.
- The trigger threshold for “Rescue Strikes” has been raised from 25% health to 30% health.
- The attack speed and chance for critical hits per increase of “Repeater Crossbow” has been increased from 20% to 30%.
- The mana restoration of “Spear of Shojin” has been increased from 15% to 18%.
- Only the item “Trap Claw” has received a nerf with patch 9.21. The stun duration has been reduced from 5 to 4 seconds.
Additionally, the update, as originally announced, has strengthened the Marksmen. They will be encountered more often in the game over the next two weeks. Particularly Varus and the latest champion Kai’Sa are in high demand.

What change in patch 9.21 is surprising? TFT has received another major adjustment in the area of player damage. This has been re-adjusted so that it is a bit more painful at the beginning and not so strong in the late game.
The damage from champions on the field has generally been reduced, while the base damage has been increased:
- 1 star by class: 1/1/2/2/3 ⇒ 1/1/1/2/3
- 2 stars by class: 2/2/3/4/5 ⇒ 2/2/2/3/4
- 3 stars by class: 3/4/5/6/8 ⇒ 3/3/3/5/8
- Base damage: 1/2/2/3/4/5 ⇒ 3/3/3/4/5/6
Marksmen are happy, others attributes are getting nerfs
Who benefits from patch 9.21? The latest update particularly benefits Marksmen and Sorcerers:
- Marksmen: Additional attack speed increased from 25%/70% to 40%/70%.
- Varus: Attack damage increased from 50 to 60.
- Sorcerers: Ability power increased from 40%/100%/175% to 40%/120%/200%.
Additionally, Cho’Gath’s damage has been increased from 175/350/525 to 200/400/600, and Brand’s ultimate ability now flies faster than before.
Who are the losers of patch 9.21? The big losers of the update are Guardians, who were still significantly buffed in patch 9.20, Hextech, and Draven. The latter received a double nerf:
- Guardians: Additional armor reduced from 45 to 40.
- Pantheon: Armor reduced from 80 to 70.
- Hextech: Duration of item disable reduced from 7 to 5 seconds.
- Draven: Attack damage reduced from 70 to 65.
- Bugfix: Draven no longer has a higher scaling with attack speed than intended.
Another nerf was applied to the Elementalist Lissandra. She now requires 10 more mana than before the update. There was also a small change for the Knights. The blocked damage was reduced from 15/35/60 to 15/30/60.
Patch 9.21 was the last update of Set 1
What happens now after the patch? This update was the last from Set 1, and thus the final two weeks of the current ranked season have begun. The upcoming update 9.22 on November 5 will temporarily disable ranked for two weeks.
With this patch, Set 2 will also be released. We have summarized everything about the new champs and attributes here.
In addition to the champions, the game board will also change. You can learn more about it here:
