The new Teamfight Tactics patch 9.18 has been live on the test servers since yesterday and includes a major addition: the new basic item Combat Gloves, which can be combined with others.
Update September 6: On Twitter, Riot employee Richard Henkel announced that there will be no patch 9.17b and that the Combat Gloves will be moved to patch 9.19.
What can the Combat Gloves do? The new item for TFT mixes offensive and defensive capabilities and is designed to maintain the current balance. It grants you:
- +10% Dodge Chance
- +10% Critical Hit Chance
Since it is a new basic item, it can be combined with existing items. This results in a total of 9 additional items, which will significantly shake up the meta.
When will patch 9.18 be released? On August 28, the new patch 9.17 for TFT was released. This brought the champion Pantheon. A smaller patch 9.17b is expected in the coming week.
The big patch 9.18, on the other hand, will be released a week later on September 18/19.
Dodging and New Mechanics in the Focus of Items
What new items can be crafted? A total of eight new items and the Blade of Fate can be crafted from the Combat Gloves.
Notably, Riot Games has introduced a new function. A champion can only equip this specific item. It has a special effect added within each round.
| Thief’s Gloves | Combat Gloves + Combat Gloves A champion with Thief’s Gloves can only carry the items temporarily granted by this item, no others. At the beginning of each round, you gain two temporary items. Their quality is based on your level. |
| Hand of Justice | Combat Gloves + Tear of the Goddess At the start of the planning phase, the bearer randomly gains either 40% increased damage or 40 health per hit until the end of the round. |
| Infinity Blade | Combat Gloves + Giant’s Sword Critical hits deal 200% more damage. |
| Arcane Gloves | Combat Gloves + Oversized Staff Your abilities can critically hit. |
| Mercury | Combat Gloves + Negatron Cloak The bearer dodges the next crowd control effect cast on them. Refreshes every five seconds. |
| Iceborn Gloves | Combat Gloves + Chain Vest After dodging, you create an expanding zone that slows enemy attack speed by 30%. |
| Backhand | Combat Gloves + Belt of the Giant The bearer starts the fight with a spell shield. The enemy that destroys the shield is stunned for a longer duration. |
| Repeater Crossbow | Combat Gloves + Recursion Bow When the bearer dies, the Repeater Crossbow transfers to a new ally, granting them a 20% critical hit chance and 20% attack speed. These values increase each time the crossbow is passed on. |
| Knuckledusters | Combat Gloves + Golden Spatula Additionally grants a 10% critical hit chance and a 10% dodge chance. The bearer is also a Yordle. |
New Items and Adjustments to Existing Ones
What replaces the Blade of Fate? Until patch 9.18, the Blade of Fate could be crafted from two Giant’s Swords. The recipe has been changed, and a new item, the Lord’s Blade, has been introduced:
- A champion with Lord’s Blade can only carry the items temporarily granted by this item, no others. A champion who already possesses an item cannot equip Lord’s Blade.
- After a kill/assist, you gain a Giant’s Sword for the rest of the round.
What else has changed about the items? In addition to the new features, the Sword of Divinity is being removed. It will be replaced by the Last Breath:
- Giant’s Sword + Recursion Bow
- Attacks cannot be dodged, and absolute damage equal to 5% of the target’s max health is dealt.
At the same time, the Rapid Firecannon is being overhauled. The effect that attacks can no longer be dodged has been removed and Last Breath has been added.
Additionally, a new item, Neko’s Help, is being introduced. This item cannot be combined with others but is consumed upon use. It copies a 1-star champion in your bench to help you more quickly reach a 3-star champion.
