The first balance patch for Set 2 in Teamfight Tactics is ready to go. As usual, we were given an overview of the changes in advance.
What changes with Patch 9.23? The new update for TFT will make several changes, but will not bring any new features. It was previously communicated that new content will appear less frequently, but in a bundled manner.
The latest update primarily focuses on nerfs and bug fixes, although there are also some buffs. This is done in preparation for the new ranked season.
When will ranked return? With the launch of Set 2 featuring many new champions and attributes, the ranked mode was disabled.
This will be reactivated along with Patch 9.23 on Wednesday, November 20.
Below we now present the most important changes in Patch 9.23. We are based on the changes that previously made it to the PBE.
1. Nerf to Shadow Champions
What changes with Shadows? The shadow champions are currently strong and appeared correspondingly frequently in the winning combos from the first TFT Invitational.
Patch 9.23 reduces the damage of the champions:
- Shadow units deal 45%/85% additional damage instead of 50%/100%.
Additionally, there is a nerf for the health points of the creatures summoned by Malzahar.
2. Buffs for Guardians
What changes with the Guardians? Guardians are currently among the weaker champions in Set 2. This is set to change with Patch 9.23:
- The bonus armor of the guardians will increase from 125%/275%/400% to 150%/300%/400%.
- Additionally, Thresh’s shield will be strengthened from 200/300/400 to 250/400/600.
- A buff for Taric is also planned.
3. Nerf for Ice Creatures, but Buff for Ezreal
What changes with Ice Creatures? Ice creatures currently cause strong CC even with very few units. Accordingly, there was a nerf for the origin on the PBE:
- Chance for CC is reduced from 20%/40%/60% to 20%/35%/50%.
- Additionally, there is a nerf for Olaf, who was not yet present on the PBE.
In return, however, the champion Ezreal is getting buffed. The damage of his ability is slightly increased.

4. Changes to Forest
What changes with Forest Champions? Forest champions create a copy of a champion in the 3-piece bonus. There have repeatedly been bugs that are now to be finally fixed with Patch 9.23.
At the same time, however, there are nerfs for champions Yvern and Maokai:
- Yvern’s shield is reduced from 200/400/600 to 200/350/500.
- The healing of Maokai is also reduced.
5. Nerfs for Summoners
What changes with the Summoners? As already mentioned regarding the shadow creatures, Malzahar is getting a nerf. However, Yorick will also be weakened with the patch.
His summoned units will have less health in the future. Yorick is important for both the summoner bonus and the 6-piece light combo.
