In Teamfight Tactics, a change in the champion sets is imminent. However, for the second set, Riot Games has come up with another change that will greatly affect the positioning of the champions.
What changes with Set 2 on the battlefield? As TFT Lead Designer Mortdog announced on Twitter, the battlefield will be enlarged with the upcoming set. Instead of the previous three rows of hexagons, you will have four rows available in the future.
This enlargement of the battlefield significantly impacts the positioning of your and your opponents’ champions.
Additionally, new elemental fields will be added, which will also affect positioning.
What are the new elemental fields? The new elemental fields will randomly appear on the battlefield but will always remain in the same position once they have appeared.
The first field will appear at the start, the second in Stage 3-1. They bring additional effects depending on which elemental field has been generated. However, to activate this effect, the champion in the field must have an empty item slot.
Developer Mortdog has created a cheat sheet for this, which we have attached for you.
New positions for AD carries and tanks?
What changes with a larger battlefield? A larger battlefield has several influences on gameplay in Teamfight Tactics:
- AoE attacks will be less effective since players can spread their champions further apart.
- The rapid-fire rifle will become more important for AD carries, allowing them to hit their enemies without moving much. The interaction between AD carries and tanks may also change.
- Assassins will cover greater distances with their jumps, which can be an advantage for them.
- Items and effects that affect champions in the vicinity will weaken. This applies to protectors, hextech, or items like the Amulet of the Iron Solari.
With these changes, new classes and combinations could become viable. Some origins, like Hextech, we most likely won’t encounter at all. Set 2 will introduce many new champions while rotating out old ones.
What else changes with Set 2? We already know that at least 16 new champions will come with Set 2. At the same time, many old champions will rotate out with the release. The set is expected to launch with 51 champions.
Currently, 50 of the 51 champions and many origins and classes are known. You can find more about the innovations in Set 2 here.
When will Set 2 be released? We will be able to experience the first experiments with Set 2 in just a few days. It will be released on October 22 on the PBE.
The official release of the set will only take place with Patch 9.22 on November 5 at night. The Patch 9.21, which will make some changes to champions, will be released beforehand on October 23.
