The eSports organization “Evil Geniuses” kicked player Christopher “NYChrisG” Gonzalez from the team. The reason is comments he made in 2017. He says the team knew about it from the beginning.
Who is it about? Christopher “NYChrisG” Gonzalez plays fighting games. In 2016, he won “Marvel vs. Capcom 3”. He is also known for his skills in the Street Fighter series.
For comments he made in 2017, he was now kicked from his team at Evil Geniuses.
They write: “We at EG value every member of our community and do not tolerate any harassment. After an investigation, it was clear that Chris’ statements, although made in 2017, continue to have real, harmful effects in our community.”
What were those comments?
This is what he wrote: As Kotaku reports, NYChrisG made these comments in 2017 on Facebook regarding black female players in the fighting game scene. He referred to them all as “ratchet as hell”. The word ratchet can have multiple meanings. As Urban-Dictionary.com explains, it often actually means the word “Wretched”, describing a state of poor quality.
Furthermore, he continued in his Facebook comment, “And I cannot stress this enough. All black female gamers are bad. They talk 99% of the time only.” (Source via blackgirlnerds.com)
Kotaku explains that although Gonzalez was once considered the best “Marvel vs. Capcom 3” player, he built a bad reputation for saying very bad things.
Just recently, he tweeted after the death of actor Robin Williams that it would be a shame to lose such a great actor. However, he had no respect for people who take their own lives. (via Forums.shoryuken.com)
Recently, Capcom banned a former pro from all of its fighting game tournaments, because of a tweet.
How NYChrisG defends himself
This is what he says after the expulsion: Today, on June 24, Gonzalez spoke on Twitter about the situation.
EG really threw me under the bus…….. NACH ALLEN!!!! They knew what I said and that I regretted it. I told them on day 1 when I posted it that I really messed up. And they told me they would help me get through it. THEY MADE ME MOVE TO SEATTLE…
I was repeatedly told that EG was satisfied with my performance. I was repeatedly told when I asked if I would be dropped for the things I did. I KNOW WHAT I DID AND I’VE REGRETTED IT SINCE DAY 1. They said NO, I am family, and that I wouldn’t go anywhere.

Why Evil Geniuses is now picking up these comments after about 3 years and punishing the player for it is unclear.

Completely differently did this CoD pro. He was kicked from his team, because he hit on the wrong woman during a tournament. The following argument escalated to the point where the player got kicked from the team. That was already his 31st team in just 7 years.
