The MMORPG Tarisland wanted to do something good for its players and reduce waiting times. But instead of shorter ones, players are now lagging through the world.
What was the plan? The developers of Tarisland wanted to help players reduce waiting times. Especially with older content or in regions like Latin America, where there aren’t as many players, players had previously complained about the waiting.
The developers only wanted to help players and quickly connected the servers in Europe, America, and Latin America. While this initially sounded good, it led to the biggest shitstorm since the release of the new MMORPG.

3 Hours of Shitstorm Until Change
Why was there a shitstorm? The developers actually just wanted all players to be able to play together in dungeons, raids, and PvP. However, for players in Europe, this likely meant that the servers would now be hosted in America.
Shortly after the update, many players began to complain about poor pings. Moreover, the update destroyed the names of many players, as special characters were not properly transferred during the server transfer.
The pings for players from Europe were consistently in the range of 100–200 ms, as users on the Tarisland Discord reported. The update wasn’t even announced, and when community manager Jeya revealed what the developers had done, a major shitstorm began.
The developers ask for feedback and receive it: In the announcement by community manager Jeya on Discord, she explained that the developers would listen to community feedback regarding the issue of shorter waiting times compared to better pings.
The feedback didn’t take long to arrive, and the post with the announcement received hundreds of thumbs downs. Additionally, the topics related to this amassed over 2,000 messages.
How did the situation end? Not even 4 hours later, community manager Jeya got back to the players and apologized.
She announced on Discord: “We are very grateful for all your feedback. We deeply apologize for any inconveniences. […] We will conduct a server maintenance from July 26, 2024, 03:00 to July 26, 2024, 06:00, to improve your gaming experience. Furthermore, the issue with displaying character nicknames and network problems will be addressed and resolved.”
Meanwhile, players’ pings in Europe are back to normal low levels. As compensation, all players received 600 time travel tokens via in-game mail, which they can use to buy items like mounts, cosmetic items, and silver.
