While the world is still waiting for the new MMORPG Tarisland, people in China are already playing. Joining is MeinMMO author Cedric Holmeier, who already knows what the game is really like.
I played Tarisland in China and I liked it
On June 12, 2024, the lights turned on in China for Tarisland. While the rest of the world had to wait until June 21, I was able to start at the same time as the players from China. I was surprised that the German version of the game had improved significantly, although there are still some minor errors.
Tarisland in China did not disappoint me, on the contrary: the new MMORPG impressively shows how a “classic MMORPG” can be implemented today.
I really like the Holy Trinity of healer, tank, and DPS, as well as the typical classes. Especially the fact that each class and each specialization has its own resource management makes the classes feel different despite having fewer abilities.
The release of Tarisland is occurring gradually, and I’ve already experienced several raids and dungeons that all had nice mechanics and were not too easy.

What lies behind the accusations?
While playing, I constantly had the accusations surrounding the game in my mind. Just the word Pay2Win triggers deep aversion in me, so I went on a quest for answers.
The currency for the marketplace can surprisingly easily be earned in-game, and I was even able to earn enough gold effortlessly to buy a monthly pass that acts similarly to a VIP status.
Yes, you can buy gold for real money, although it requires a workaround – BUT: The best items are not available for gold, but only from raids. I haven’t spent a cent and have been able to defeat all bosses so far, even in raids, without any problems.
How similar is it to World of Warcraft?
Tarisland definitely resembles World of Warcraft. The art style, the classes, even some bosses or quests are inspired by WoW. However, Tarisland also draws inspiration from many well-known brands, especially the “Lord of the Rings” references caught my eye.
However, Tarisland does not play like a clone. It takes its own path with skills and resources, showing that it doesn’t take three skill bars to make a character challenging. Also, the tasks, the systems, and the setting itself have less to do with WoW on closer inspection than it may seem.
The new MMORPG has drawn inspiration from everywhere players are satisfied, and that’s not a bad thing. Nevertheless, hardcore WoW fans will surely find references frequently. Tarisland is something of its own and not a clone, nor a copy of WoW.
Isn’t Tarisland a mobile game?
I could never identify if someone plays Tarisland on mobile. Tarisland was developed for PC and mobile. The PC version is not a simple port, and the game manages to unite both variants effortlessly.
Anyone who really fears playing Tarisland with “dead zone teammates” and “battery dead” randos can simply experience the new MMORPG with friends or guild members at any time.
