What is the “Holy Trinity”? In many modern MMOs, classes are divided into three main categories, which determine the distribution of tasks within an MMORPG group:
- Tanks, who absorb the attacks of enemies and draw their attention.
- Healers or supporters, who buff the group and keep them alive
- Damage Dealers (DDs), who deal a lot of damage to the enemy
This concept gained popularity primarily through WoW and has spread in the genre since. Many players have focused on specific roles over the years.
Some prefer to roam the world as DDs. As mages, they rain death and devastation upon their foes. Or they sneak up behind their enemies as rogues.
Others prefer to don heavy armor and stand up to protect their comrades. They often wield a shield, like paladins, who are often tanks in MMORPGs.
And the third group typically consists of priests or druids, who support the group with their buffs and healing spells. Some would even say they bear the greatest responsibility among all roles.
The roles of the Holy Trinity are, of course, not mandatory and are not represented in all MMORPGs. Are you purists who only play a specific role? Or do you enjoy playing all roles equally? Or do you even reject the Holy Trinity system and prefer hybrid classes? Tell us!
