The Season 2 of the Overwatch League has started, and many fans have already watched the first matches of the new season. In one of the games, there was even a unique novelty: Symmetra was played seriously.
In the encounter between the LA Gladiators and Seoul Dynasty, the Gladiators opted for a somewhat unusual composition. Both teams played the prevalent, albeit unpopular GOATS meta. Lane “Surefour” Roberts from the Gladiators, however, complemented this with Symmetra.
This was the first time that Symmetra was played seriously in the Overwatch League. Previously, she was only considered a troll pick or a meme to lighten the mood before switching picks.

Symmetra’s first appearance in the league
This is how Symmetra was used: The LA Gladiators utilized Symmetra to complete their remaining composition of two tanks and three healers. They played the composition on King’s Row.
Their tactic was to use Symmetra’s teleporters to get behind enemy lines and build pressure from there. They played around the strong defense line of Seoul Dynasty.
Symmetra can now place portals at any time since her rework and no longer just as an ultimate ability.
Did it work? The Gladiators’ first attack went well, but was not successful. They managed to get behind Seoul Dynasty, but lost the first fight.
For the next fight for the first point, however, Symmetra’s new ultimate ability came into play, a giant barrier. This helped the Gladiators take the point in a relatively short time.
According to the commentators, such tactics with Symmetra could even be a good counter against the currently prevailing tank meta.
The Gladiators still lose: The victory at the first point was not long-lasting. Shortly after, Seoul Dynasty brought the payload to a halt and completely dismantled the Gladiators in several fights. In the end, Seoul Dynasty won the match with a total of 3:1.
It is particularly juicy that Seoul Dynasty’s new tank player is the former tank player of the Gladiators, Fissure. Fissure had already switched from London Spitfire to the Gladiators in Season 1, only to dismantle his old team there as well. This is now the second time he has defeated his former teammates.
