Today, on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, Star Wars: The Old Republic suddenly appeared on Steam and now has its own shop page there. That this would happen, was already hinted at earlier in July.
The Old Republic thus joins numerous games that publisher EA has brought to Steam recently. You can find the Star Wars MMORPG here on Steam.
SWTOR now free to play on Steam
What is The Old Republic? Star Wars: The Old Republic (short SWTOR) has been on the market since 2011 and has regularly excited many players since then. It ranked second among the best Free2Play MMORPGs on MeinMMO.
You either play as a supporter of the Republic or the Sith with various classes, each of which can explore its own background and story. Depending on which faction you join, you will discover the world from different perspectives.
SWTOR places great emphasis on story and moral choices. You must repeatedly evaluate which direction you want to develop. Depending on the path you choose, NPCs may react differently to you.
A major plus of the game is the fully voiced and cinematic quests, which will surely delight every fan of the franchise.
What is happening in SWTOR right now? At the end of 2019, the new expansion Onslaught was launched. It focuses heavily on the conflict between Sith and Republic and brings new worlds for you to explore.
Onslaught is being very well received by fans, which they owe to the new story as well as the new playable race of Nautolan. The biggest criticism is that the story could have been longer.
Is it worth starting? After some criticism of the Free2Play model the free content has also been revised. Those who do not pay now have fewer disadvantages than before.
A release on Steam is usually something that can give a game new life. The best recent example is Titanfall 2, where the Steam release drove thousands of players to multiplayer.
SWTOR is a free MMORPG and now accessible to many new players with Steam. It is especially worthwhile for new players to start now, and veterans can now make new friendships. Those still looking for more content in the MMORPG sector should definitely take a look at Star Wars: The Old Republic also in 2020.
