Star Wars: The Old Republic brings a “new” trailer; a HD version of an old classic. And the fans are celebrating it.
No matter what you think about SWTOR, there is one aspect of the game that has consistently been praised by everyone: the stunning CGI trailers. Even at launch, there were a lot of them, showing the conflict between the Republic and the Empire and capturing particularly important events.
Now, 10 years after the original launch of the game, BioWare is simply bringing back the most famous trailer – in 4K Ultra HD.
What kind of trailer is this? It is the “Deceived” trailer, which was originally released on June 1, 2009. The trailer shows the attack on the Republic planet Coruscant, which is quickly taken over by the Empire and heavily damaged in a major assault. Now the trailer is available in 4K Ultra HD – and it looks better than ever:
Of course, this includes beautiful Twi’leks, bounty hunters, and a lightsaber duel where the better side wins (which is the Empire).
Also in focus here is Darth Malgus, who later rises to Emperor in the story and continues to play an important role in the latest expansions. He is one of the key characters of SWTOR.
The trailer is considered legendary: This trailer for SWTOR has also gained fame beyond the game’s boundaries. For many, it is more than just a trailer; like the other cinematics of the game, it’s a Star Wars short film. Accordingly, there is a lot of praise in the comments under the video on YouTube:
- “These cinematics are the best Star Wars content ever.”
- “I wish the people behind this video would make a whole movie. I’d pay to see it.”
- “It’s somehow impressive that this old 5-minute trailer shows us a clearer and more complete story than the storyline of the sequel films.”
Additionally, it is also quite an informative trailer that shows more than just the story. Many of the actions in the cinematic during the battles are abilities that Jedi, Sith, and bounty hunters can also use in the game.
What’s the mood like in SWTOR right now? Besides that, the release of the new expansion “Legacy of the Sith” is approaching. The developers want to take new directions and remove random factors in many cases from the game. Whether the expansion can give the MMORPG another boost in attention and players remains to be seen.
Some hope that the developers will now release all trailers again in Ultra HD, almost as a “countdown” for the new expansion and a corresponding, completely new trailer.
