In SWTOR , the Galactic Command is being reworked and players are crying out: Group play is “again” worthless.
One of the new endgame features of Star Wars: The Old Republic is the “Galactic Command” of the Knights of the Eternal Throne expansion. It was basically criticized even before its release. While some fans see it as a nice incentive to travel back to “old planets” and complete missions, for others it’s just a “cheap knockoff” of World of Warcraft’s world quests “but with even more RNG added on top.”
However, the fact is that accumulating experience points within this system takes a lot of time, and the rewards are rather slow to come by. Players quickly searched for the most effective way to earn command experience points and found one. Farming gold enemies granted particularly many points, 10 points per enemy. So there were numerous players who banded together in groups to do nothing all day but farm gold enemies and thereby quickly rise in rank. Apparently too quickly for BioWare, as they have now reacted and reduced the number of points gained per enemy from 10 to 1.
As expected, this caused mixed reactions in the forums and on Reddit. Some strongly criticized the nerf:
“Killing enemies was actually rewarding and I saw the game world with new eyes and completed bonus missions that I would have never considered otherwise. For me, it was a completely new way to play, and now it feels like someone has slammed that door right in my face.”
Others, on the other hand, do not see the problem with BioWare, but rather with the players who overstepped their bounds:
“It wasn’t just one person exploiting the system. On every server I play, there were command XP groups farming Elite and Champions for hours. These groups completely undermined the entire Galactic Command system. The nerf was obvious and inevitable. Don’t blame BioWare for the nerf. Blame the players who tried to exploit the system.”
BioWare has not said anything on the topic yet, which only adds to the frustration.
Cortyn says: I can’t really warm up to the “Galactic Command” anyway and can fully understand that players have sought the most effective way. However, such a massive nerf seems somewhat excessive – but perhaps one just needs to wait a few days to see how the entire system plays out when it has been active for a while.
