The SWTOR expansion “Legacy of the Sith” is facing criticism. Can a single patch resolve the numerous issues of the MMORPG addon?
Star Wars: The Old Republic is one of the few MMORPGs that has managed to stay on the market for years. However, the celebration of the game’s 10th anniversary has more or less fallen flat. The latest expansion “Legacy of the Sith” received a rather “meh” response from players. This is primarily due to the numerous problems encountered with the new expansion:
- A short story playtime of just under an hour
- Redesign of the interface, which appears unfinished and less appealing
- Numerous changes to classes and guild banks
These three and many other issues have been hotly debated in the forum since the release of the new expansions. For the first few days, there was silence in response to this criticism from BioWare, but a few days ago, community manager “Jackie” made a statement.
What was said? Jackie is trying to calm the waters in the SWTOR community:
We received your feedback last week, read your posts and messages on various platforms. The team has been working on fixing the bugs you reported and making adjustments that will improve the gaming experience.
As mentioned in another post, we are currently finalizing the details about when the next patch will be released. It will also include adjustments for the interface contrast and other bug fixes. As soon as we have the information, we will share it with the entire player base, including the info about when the patch will be deployed. […]
At least it’s clear: The players’ concerns are being heard, and there are plans in progress.
Players are angry about the long silence: Most players seem to be bothered by the developers’ silence for several days regarding the issues that have arisen. For a long time, it was unclear whether and what would be changed. Many see this lack of communication as the biggest weakness and another source of frustration. As bcnsmom wrote in the official SWTOR forum:
[…] You have also been silent about the origin of further frustration and anger.
Why are you silent on a topic that you implemented and that hurts us players? I do not understand. This is extremely hurtful for all who have been so loyal to you, to be treated this way now.
When is the patch coming? There is still no exact release date for the patch, although it is clear that the remaining players are eagerly waiting for it. It seems as if SWTOR has to recover from this expansion first, because BioWare clearly has not hit the mark with it, a view shared by our author Alexander Leitsch:
