Bioware has rolled out a new update for the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR). This changes quite a bit about the cash shop, the Cartel Market.
The Cartel Market is an important part of the MMORPG SWTOR, as it finances the game. Over the years, players have provided feedback on how this cash shop can be improved, and with the current update, changes are making their way into the online game.

Cartel Market will be more flexible
In general, Bioware wants to give players more options to handle the cash shop flexibly:
- It is now possible to purchase items directly
- You don’t always have to buy packages
- There will be more items available
- There are more interesting packages

New items on sale
To introduce the changes, there is currently a spring sale running until April 17, where you can already buy new items. This includes the Dark Honor Guard’s Unstable Saber, inspired by Kylo Ren’s lightsaber from Star Wars Episodes 7 and 8. Additionally, you will find the next Cartel Pack titled “Ultimate Pack” on sale. This offers you:
- 4 slots. Slots 1, 2, and 3 can contain any item that has ever been released in the Cartel Market, including future updates
- Slot 4 offers gifts for companions, items to dye your gear, and more
Additionally, the current update for SWTOR offers tweaks, optimizations, and bug fixes for the last major update 5.8.
In general, fans are responding well to the changes. However, some feel like it feels like a liquidation sale before a store closes. There are voices suggesting that Electronic Arts wants to charge fans one last time before the SWTOR servers shut down. There have been reports that Bioware will focus fully on completing Anthem and thus shifting focus away from SWTOR.
But well, the team has denied these rumors before.
With update 5.8, the boss enemy Izax was introduced, among other things.
