On the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, there will soon be a Sword Art Online title. Not what one hoped for, but better than nothing.
The New World of Ainground
After some confusion regarding Sword Art Online, a disappointing announcement came a few weeks ago: the supposedly planned SAO game with virtual reality integration was just a marketing demo. However, fans of the franchise need not despair completely, as a new Sword Art Online title will soon be released, which will even come to Europe.
The JRPG titled “Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization” takes place after the two previously released seasons of the anime and continues the story of Kirito, Asuna, and Sinon. At its center will be the mystery of a mysterious NPC named “Premiere”.
This time, it takes place in the world of Ainground, where players can roam through the expansive game world with up to 3 additional characters (many of whom are already known from the anime), which visually resembles the original “Sword Art Online” very much.
Although there is no fixed release date yet, the trailer mentions “2016” – fans probably won’t have to wait much longer. While it won’t fully replace a virtual reality MMO, it should at least provide some comfort for a while.
