A new survival game on Steam promises a tough survival battle and already attracts players with an extensive demo. In the trailer, Soulmask showcases its dangerous game world full of action-packed battles in advance.
What kind of game is it? Soulmask is an upcoming survival game that promises an “authentic survival experience.” Players will have to face the challenges of nature and not only fight against their own hunger and thirst but also against the dangerous creatures that populate the world.
In typical survival fashion, players start with nothing and gradually craft weapons, build shelters, and even establish their own tribe.
Soulmask is set to release on Steam in 2024. However, the game can already be tested as a demo version has been added to the Steam page for the upcoming Steam Next Fest. With about 40 hours of content, the demo is larger than many complete games.
You can get a first impression here in the trailer:

What is the mood like? Even before the release, potential players showed interest on YouTube in the first images of the game. Under the announcement trailer for the demo, one user writes: “If you catch me in the first 15 seconds of a trailer, I’m in.” Another agrees: “I wondered what on earth this person was talking about. 5 seconds later I see it exactly the same way.” (via YouTube)
The first players seem to be quite positive so far. There is a lively exchange on the official Discord server, and players are helping each other with advice and support. The fact that some features, like PvP servers, are not included in the demo version is to be expected and does not pose a serious annoyance.
Is there any criticism? There are negative voices as well. Some users criticize the use of artificial intelligence for the voiceover in the trailer. Under another version of the trailer with more than 275,000 views, players note that the game seems to still lack polish and worry about a long early access period.
However, the developers are likely to work hard on these points before the release.
In Soulmask, the fight is not only against creatures, rival tribes, and looters but also against other players. However, PvP is supposed to be completely optional in the game. In contrast, there is to be no PvP at all in the new survival hit from Germany – yet that doesn’t necessarily protect you from other players:
